MacGregor MT Pro M Forged Iron Review

2008 is a big step forward for MacGregor Golf. They have shuffled their management around and decided to come out with a completly new line up for the new year. I was a little shocked by this at first. While their MacTec line had been around for a few years they had just introduced a draw series of woods and the NVG2 Mid irons were the best I've hit in a while. But with new product comes new toys for me to hit and pass the basics along to you!

The MacGregor MT Pro M Forged irons go back to the traditional forgings that MacGregor Golf is known for. They are a very clean, classic looking club with minimal offset and a very thin top line. They are forged from a very soft 1025 carbon steel with a CNC milled face. These irons were designed for only one type of player in mind: The Best. You really have to know what you are doing with this set to get the best results out of them. Thankfully I had been able to get out to the range over the Winter to keep the rust off before trying these irons out.

They look great first of all! The have a brushed satin finish, which makes for a very nice appearance at address. I hit some very good shots with these clubs. As you could expect, working the ball is no problem with this set, but they were less than forgiving on off center hits as you could expect as well! I personally think their past blade offering, the M675 was a better set overall. They were much more forgiving and just as workable due to their tungsten weighted long irons. That said, I'd play this set, but it would not be my first choice. I've got a great review on the new Cobra Forged irons coming up!

Overall if you like the company, like blades, and are a good player. These clubs are for you. They are $799.99 per set which is around average for a forged set these days and if they are not at your local golf store, they will be soon. There is nothing wrong with a classic design with some modern improvements, but the modern improvements only helps the better player, which is what they were designed for in the first place. I liked them, but did not love them. There are far better blades out there for 2008 in my opinion.
