The Maclaren strollers that are included in this recall are: Volo, Triumph, Quest Sport, Quest Mod, Techno XT, Techno XLR, Twin Triumph, Twin Techno and Easy Traveller. The Maclaren company makes umbrella type strollers and this voluntary recall includes all Maclaren single and double strollers, the year purchased is irrelevant. If you purchased a new Maclaren Umbrella Stroller that does have the cover over the hinges then that stroller is safe and not included in this recall. If you purchased a newer Maclaren stroller and the safety hinge covers came separately you will need to check to make sure that you put them on the stroller. If you have lost the hinge covers you can also participate in the Maclaren Stroller Recall.
The Maclaren Stroller Recall includes about 1 million strollers total. Why is the Maclaren Stroller Recall being issued? The official wording of the Maclaren Stroller Recall is "the stroller's hinge mechanism, which poses a fingertip amputation and laceration hazard to the child when the consumer is unfolding/opening the stroller." In plain English this means when you are placing the child in this stroller and it is not completely unfolded the hinge could cut the child's finger off. If that was not horrific enough the hinge on the Maclaren strollers in this recall could also just cut the finger badly.
Phone number and website form information for the recall kit is on page 2 of this article...
It took a total of 12 children to have their fingers cut off with these Maclaren strollers to finally get the recall. Somewhere out there twelve children are missing some or part of their fingers and have to live the rest of their lives that way. Don't wait to get the Maclaren Stroller Recall hinge cover kit. If you must use a Maclaren Stroller that is included in the recall please be very careful when opening and closing the stroller, also when placing your child inside of the stroller.
