2007's offering is the 81st edition of this American classic.
As a child, while watching the parade, Mom would be in the kitchen making the traditional turkey dinner. Us kids would munch on mixed nuts and sweet pickles while the smell of the holiday bird filled the air.
The parade features giant balloons of cartoon characters reflective of whatever is popular on children's television. When I was young, there was Popeye, Bugs Bunny, Underdog, and Bullwinkle the Moose.
Today, the balloons are Pikachu (of Pokemon fame), Hello Kitty, Scooby Doo, and Big Bird.
Another poular feature every year are the Radio City Rockettes. Those girls kick their gorgeous legs so high and form patterns that are a joy to watch from NBC's overhead cameras.
In addition, marching bands from high schools across the United States play holiday music and popular television and recording stars entertain the crowds throughout the parade route.
Topping off the parade, is a visit from Santa Claus. This is his first and only appearance to America until he arrives late on December the 24th.
The parade never loses its joy as the start of the holiday season kicks off and the turkey continues to cook in the kitchen.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
