All that smoking and drinking and sex and power and smoldering glory and adultery and sex and power and smoking and smoldering glory and yes I'm repeating myself, just like the show does. Why do I love this show?
Bad me! Shame on me! But I just can't help it. My favorite Characters are probably everyone's favorites, Elizabeth Moss as Peggy Olson, January Jones as Betty Draper and I can't help but love that jerk of a husband of hers ( or as I hear it now from the grape vine former husband), Jon Hamm as Dick Whitman AKA Don Draper. He's just too charming. I thought he was going to stop fooling around but the guy just can't help himself or so it appears. And I love to hate Vincent Kartheiser as Pete Campbell. He's the kind of manipulative twit that almost everyone that's ever been in corporate America has had to deal with. There are no saints here. Everyone does something good and something bad or something VERY bad, indeed.
And yet each character has components that make them so dynamic, it strikes a nerve. It's also cool to see old advertisements and things that I barely remember from childhood, or reruns, yeah reruns- (I'm much too young to remember this stuff first hand. Smirk)
Anyway as I've said I'm a season behind everyone else, so hush your mouth in the comments section. I think as a writer I love it because the creative process is always there. Creative doesn't get enough credit for rowing the boat but we all know without it, there would be no advertising.
So, now to my next agenda, I've been reading Ben Kenber's takes on movies, shows, books and events for quite some time now. I even feature him on my own blog, Lahipchic.com from time to time. And I know this guy knows talent. So when he asked me to vote for Clare Meehan on to be a walk on for the show, I just knew I had to pick her, plus she's got the look. She's got that Mad Men, 'woman' look and I know she'll be great because, as I said I trust Ben's opinion.
So if you want to vote for somebody, simply because they know somebody, who knows somebody else, who knows someone with an eye for talent, do it! This may be Clare's opportunity to strike it rich in the land of glitz and you can play a part in it. Do it here. Do it now. Do it often. Every day until September 17th, you can vote for Clare Meehan. Vote for Clare because she's going to be someone famous someday, because I say so, and Ben Kenber says so, and I'm pretty sure her family says so too. And you can say so just by voting. Isn't that cool? Then you can tell your Mad Men watching friends you helped get her on the show! Wowza, you are one power wielding ax in the grindstone of Media. You're like 'Sterling, Cooper, Draper, and Price all rolled into one. You're a Mad Man! Or Woman! Or Whatever!

Post a CommentI have season 1 coming up in my Netflix queue, can't wait to watch it!
I, too, watch the show via Netflix. One moment that sticks out in my mind was the very cynical John Slattery's character in blackface, singing "My Old Kentucky Home" at a party he was hosting. I think it's too bad Peggy Olson broke up with Fred Armason--she would have been a great host for SNL.
I also haven't taken the time to watch this show, but I keep hearing about it so maybe I will have to try it! It sounds like a modern "Dallas".
Oh, your run-away enthusiasm is just too funny, Loraine! Now don't hit me, girlfriend, but I haven't been able to get sucked in. Don't know why. The hype before it began really appealed to me, & I've started to watch a few times. Don't know why I end up getting distracted, but now I'm so far behind, I just can't imagine getting hooked. And you're making me feel like I'm missing out on a huge cultural event! I'll be a social misfit... out of the loop among my cool friends! *sob* But you sure give it the magic touch. I agree w/ Michael's last sentence! Hope Clare Meehan wins the walk-on, cuz I trust somebody who knows somebody who knows...
I've never watched this show, but you certainly have got me interested! Maybe they'll hire you as a publicist?
Mad Men is clever, and so was this article. I love it for the same reasons you do!
Interesting from beginning to end.
