Mad Men Season 4 Premiere Has Usual Raves

The Mad Men Season 4 premiere is almost 48 hours away. But, although the Mad Men Season 4 premiere is still unseen by fans, the first episode of the new seasonhas already premiered for critics. They got an advance copy of the episode a few weeks ago, and have been giving little teasers here and there since then. Now that the episode will actually air in two nights, critics and writers are sending out more comments and opinions. And, though the Mad Men Season 4 premiere starts a brand new world for the show, critics are still raving as usual.

The website Meta Critic has collected reviews for Sunday night's episode, and pretty much all of them are raves. The lowest scores among them are two 80s out of 100, from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette and the Los Angeles Times.

Otherwise, the Mad Men Season 4 premiere reviews are nearly perfect. Out of 19 reviews, there are 9 perfect scores, forming an average rating of 94. Those are the biggest numbers by far for a show in awhile. But, for a two-time defending Emmy winner, that is almost par for the course.

These responses for the Mad Men Season 4 premiere indicate that the show's new era is starting off well. The series took a big chance dismantling Sterling Cooper for a brand new agency in the Season 3 finale. But critics and viewers loved that finale, and, thus far, critics are onboard for what happens next.

However, these writers only got the Mad Men Season 4 premiere episode from AMC. No other episodes were sent to them, so they will be watching the rest of Season 4 blind, like the audiences. Therefore, although this premiere appears to be successful, it is no indication for the rest of the year.

Often, a Mad Men season hits a few slow spots out of the gate as it catches everyone up and sets up things to come. Then, things usually pick up by midseason, before talk of a slump spreads, and then there's a huge finish at the end. But, after throwing everything into upheaval last year, what else can they do to top it?

The Mad Men Season 4 premiere can't answer that, as it can only get the ball rolling and finally show off Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce. But those waiting for the show to finally slip up will be waiting, especially since they're more out on a limb than ever now. For the moment, it appears that will not be a problem.

Fans will struggle to just skim over Mad Men Season 4 premiere reviews, as they try to hold out until 10 p.m. est Sunday night on AMC.
