Last week Zap 2 It reported that the show has yet to get a green light for a fifth season, meaning fans could be left hanging in 1965 for a very long time.
The holdup is due to AMC and show producer Lionsgate haggling over monetary details.
"Mad Men" creator Matthew Weiner said, "The truth is I don't even know what their plans are. We have not started writing. I am not back at work. My contract expired......they are fighting over a very lucrative property, and who is going to pay for it to get made."
Last week CNN's Anderson Cooper went a tad ballistic in a ranting "RidicuList" segment in which he appealed to the network and Lionsgate to work things out and "Just fix it!"
Cooper said, "It would be holding America hostage if this show does not come back for a fifth season."
In case you need a refresher, when "Mad Men" left us last fall, Don Draper (John Hamm) had just stunned the advertising firm with news that he was engaged to his 25-year old secretary, Megan (Jessica Pare).
That news put a damper on Peggy's Topaz Pantyhose deal- but at least the fledgling firm finally had a client!
And pregnant Joan (Christina Hendricks) was still carrying Roger Sterling's baby- not her Vietnam based hubby's. But no one will know the truth- unless the baby comes out with gray hair and a drink in hand.
And hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Don't we need to see what the rejected Faye (Cara Buono) has planned for Don? Her words to him after he dumped her for Megan were, "You only like the beginning of things."
Let's hope Faye's words aren't directed toward the "Mad Men" audience- because we like more than the beginnings of things. In fact, we like closure.
But as of this date, no "Mad Men' season 5 premiere date- or even a script- is in sight.
1965 could prove to be a very long and drawn out year indeed.

Post a CommentIt's a good show.
I am HOOKED on Mad Men, having seen all seasons and episodes at least twice. We have an order in for the 5th season, but you say it may not be coming. What will I do????
It is pretty crazy that they would let their blockbuster show fizzle out. I also liked Rubicon as well as many others I know. Not sure what AMC is doing but they had a good lineup going for a while. Much better than the average NBC or ABC lineup. Get back on the ball and get the camera shooting again y'all.
Hope this doesn't end up like, 'The Unit". When they held us hostage and left us shattered!
We know Season 5 will happen but the negotiations underway are rediculous and the fact that you are putting this show in jeopardy because of money, shows that greed is taking over art. Please settle your differences and let Matthew Weiner continue his brilliant work
I have yet to watch an episode, looks like I'll have to buy the DVD series.
Thanks for your recap, Victoria!
If you're as mad as I am about the delay of Mad Men, please sign my petition for Lionsgate and AMC to hurry it up!! Thanks!
