Made for Diabetics: A Profile of Diabetic Food Companies and Makers

One of the most important ways of controlling diabetes is through diet. When you have the disease, your intake of sugars, carbohydrates, and starches must be closely monitored. Now, one could do this by counting everything they eat carefully. However, there are some companies which have decided to make it easier on those who suffer from diabetes.

Many foods one would buy in the store also come in sugar-free varieties. Jams, jellies, cookies, ice cream, chocolates, and even sugar are all made without sugar, in favor of diabetics. While they may taste different at first, you can still learn to love them.

For years there have been two kinds of sugar alternatives diabetics can choose from: Sweet and Low or Equal. In the past 13 years, a new company has arrived to give diabetics another choice in sweetener alternatives. This company offers the new product of Splenda. Splenda is a different product because it is made from sugar, and you can bake or cook with it in an identical fashion. Many studies and tests have proven sucralose, the main ingredient in Splenda, is indeed very safe to consume. Sucralose is found in many diabetic friendly foods, according to the American Diabetes Wholesale company.

There are also companies which sell nothing but food for diabetics. These foods have the carbohydrates, starches, and sugars cut down or eliminated in order to help diabetic patients manage the disease through meal control. From pastas to puddings, and candies to cereals, these companies have diabetic foods down to a science. One in particular is Walden Farms. Walden Farms produces diabetic fruit spreads which are boasted to takes just like the fruit flavor it comes in (which happens to be apricot, apple butter, blueberry, grape, orange marmalade, strawberry, and raspberry). They are reasonably priced for a little under four dollars a jar.

Another company which makes foods specifically for diabetics is Glucerna. They have three different kinds of cereals which are low in everything they needs to be, in order to be safe for diabetics. So no matter whether you are enjoying their flakes and almonds, flakes and raisins, or flakes and strawberries, you can enjoy a good diabetic friendly breakfast for about four dollars and fifty cents, according to American Diabetes Wholesale.

Patients with diabetes may have to spend a little more on the specialty foods, but some find it makes life a little more comfortable.
