Made in the Image of God

Shirley A Mandel
She was a wild woman
with a head of wild hair.
And she danced dirty dances
to entertain the men.
She had the look
of a lady of the night
who didn't take care of herself.

Then she slid her boney, wrinkled hand
into a crumpled old bag
and brought out the most delicate, beautiful knit-work
I had ever seen.

She too was made
in the image of God,
animated by His very breath.
