Madea Goes to Jail

Tyler Perry Does it Again

~Addie~
As a huge fan of the Tyler Perry line of films, I must say that by far Madea goes to Jail was quite a catch. One of the funniest movies that I have seen in a long time. It's no secret that Tyler Perry has a true calling for film writing, with Madea goes to jail rolling in $41.1 million dollars in its opening weekend and an astounding $16.5 million in it's second weekend. Madea goes to Jail has topped all Tyler Perry films, and has grossed more than any other film. Audiences everywhere just can't get enough of the wacky old lady, who suffers from anger management issues. Tyler Perry seems to draw the largest audience when he stars as Mable Simmons, otherwise known as leading lady, Madea.

In Madea goes to Jail Tyler Perry has strayed away from cheating spouses and has moved on to strung-out prostitutes, pimps, and a jealous attorney who to cheats, lies, and hikes up charges on people, all for the sake of keeping her fiance'. Also playing in this film is Dr. Phil and Keshia Knight Pulliam. If you have seen any other Tyler Perry films with Madea, you know that Madea is always going before the Judge Mablean Ephriam for something. Weather if she is threatening someone with her "gat" or violating her house arrest. Madea is the poster child for trouble and it is no different in Madea goes to Jail.

In this hilarious film Tyler Perry lets Madea just be Madea, and the results are great only because they are so unpredictable. In this film Madea's "gat" is back and she uses it to get all of the people out, who Uncle Joe invitied over to celebrate after Madea is arrested for being involved in a high speed chase and beating up "the popos." Uncle Joe's character has not changed either, with his oxygen machine and his blunt and later in the film a bong, jimmy rigged through his oxygen tubes. He is still the funny old man who clowns on Madea at all times calling her the "popo hoe".

Madea goes to Jail isn't actually about Madea going to jail, or really about Madea at all. She is simply just a secondary character in this movie only showing in a few scenes. Madea goes to Jail is more about a lawyer and his jealous fiancee facing drama from his past, and as in all Tyler Perry films a Christian theme is worked in. Little Rudy Huxtable all "growed" up plays Candy, a girl from the ghetto, who is now strung out on drugs and prostituting on the streets. Josh, a prosecutor in the D.A.'s office, grew up with Candy and is shocked to be reunited with her in court after not seeing her for 5 years. Josh has a genuine desire to help this old friend but that is dissed by his jealous fiancee, Linda, who can't seem to figure out why Josh wants to associate himself with "those people" since to Linda, it's Candy's own fault she's the way she is. Through many attempts to help Candy, Josh and Linda's relationship becomes very strained so Linda does some sneaky, conniving things to have Candy put in jail for 17 years on a simple prostitution charge. Another lawyer, and Josh's best friend sees what Linda has done but keeps his mouth shut.

Then it gets good, Madea on a trip to the Big K-mart to get some food, is pissed off because a lady steals her parking space. As Madea moves her car with a forklift, she calls her "popo" husband and Madea is back before the Judge only this time it isn't judge Mablean but Judge Matthis who gives her 5 to 10 years. Here in jail is where Madea meets up with Candy and together they begin a journey as they are forced to attend group meetings with a Christian counselor.

I won't give away the rest of the movie but Tyler Perry has definitely done it again. Madea goes to Jail is a must see.
