What's up with Madonna? The Material Girl has been coming up with some great material lately -- at the expense of her pop music peers. But it's not her music we're talking about!
Instead, she's been doling out the disses to big name artists like Lady Gaga and Elton John, zinging the superstars with snarky barbs about their music. So what's Madge so mad about?
Here's an update on Madonna's latest snark attacks:
In an interview with ABC News' Cynthia McFadden, she addressed the similarities between Madonna's 1989 hit "Express Yourself" and Lady Gaga's "Born This Way."
"When I heard it on the radio… I said that sounds very familiar," Madonna said of Gaga's song. When asked by McFadden how she felt about it, Madonna responded, "It feels reductive." (Don't know what that means? "Look it up!" Madonna says.)
Then there's that ongoing Elton John feud. On the Golden Globes red carpet, the 64-year old singer quipped that Madonna didn't have a chance of winning the award for Best Original Song. When she got wind of his remark, Madonna said of John, "Was he wearing a dress? ....OK, well may the best man win."
But she did win- and it had John's hubby David Furnish in a Facebook-fueled fury (sample post: "Madonna. Best song???? F**k off!!!") But Madonna brushed off Furnish's rant that called her "embarrassing" and "desperate." Her retort about winning: "I don't feel bad!"
And speaking of the Globes, Madonna had a zinger for show host Ricky Gervais. When he introduced her as "just like a virgin," she said, "If I'm still just like a virgin, Ricky, then why don't you come over here and do something about it? I haven't kissed a girl in a few years … on TV."
Of course, Madonna's famous feuds are nothing new. Here's a few more to add to her repertoire:
Piers Morgan. Her long-running feud with the British journalist is legendary. When he landed a high-profile gig as a CNN talk show host, Morgan famously banned the pop star from his show, calling her "boring" and "an irritant in my life for the past 20 years." But when Morgan said, "We have Lady Gaga now so Madonna is banned from my show," Madge got the last word in -- via her publicist! According to Popeater, publicist Liz Rosenberg said, "Madonna doesn't know who Piers Morgan is, but she's a big fan of Lady Gaga." Zing!
Prince. She dated the "Purple Rain" singer briefly in the 1980's, but according to Rolling Stone, Madonna later called him "a little troll" who didn't eat any food on their dinner date. "He was just sipping tea, very daintily," Madonna said. "I have this theory about people who don't eat. They annoy me."
Angelina Jolie. In 2006 the actress didn't like how Madonna went about adopting baby David Banda from Malawi, calling it "illegal" because the impoverished country had "no real legal framework for adoption." But Madonna fired back after critics accused her of jumping on the baby-adopting bandwagon. In an interview with Time, Madonna snarkily said, "Look, I could have joined the U.N. and become an ambassador and visited various countries and just kind of showed up and smiled and looked concerned. … I'm not interested in going in there like a dilettante and being an idiot and going 'Ok, I'm going to build 10 orphanages and I'll see you guys later!'"
And Madonna hasn't reserved her snark for her fellow celebrities. Even her fans aren't off limits.
In 2011, she famously dissed a gift of flowers that one of her fans gave her. After an eager fan presented her with a bouquet of purple hydrangeas at the Venice Film Festival, Madonna rolled her eyes and said to a member of her posse, "I absolutely loathe hydrangeas." Too bad the whole thing was caught on tape!
Next up, Madonna is slated to headline the Superbowl half time show.
Comments, anyone? (Besides Gene Simmons, that is!)

Post a Commentwho said the snarky comments first? she just replied back.
Her snarkiness is way overshadowing her talents these days. Good work, Victoria!
If she sang her snarky remarks they would sell millions of copies, unfortunately Madge forgot that people don't care what she says but more of what she sings.
