Is Hard Candy worth it? Madonna's 2008 album is named "Hard Candy" and she has given her new gym venture the same name. Madonna was once the queen of pop. But all hot singers eventually grow cold. Madonna was replaced with people like Britney Spears and Beyonce. But Madonna is the smart business woman who knows how to stay in the news, one way or another. Madonna's gym, Hard Candy, is a realistic way to move away from a 52-year-old pop singer dancing around on the stage.
Says Madonna, Mexico City was chosen "as a place to fine-tune our brand and then expand it to other countries and, in the long term, develop a global brand that includes the United States."
Will Hard Candy come to the United States, and if it does, will people flock to it? If there's one thing Madonna is known for is her fitness dedication. But is that enough to pull them in?
Madonna has always worked hard for her body and wants to stress that "harder is better," but that's often a tough sell for lazy Americans who would rather sit in front of their computers. Perhaps "harder is better" will work for just a select group and maybe that's what Madonna wants.
In the United States, there's plenty of fitness centers. People can get a good workout, in a variety of places, for a reasonable price. There needs to be a strong enough reason for people to join if Madonna wants to appeal to a broad base.
Will the classes be unique? Madonna joined in at a fitness class at her new Mexico City location, but Madonna can't be at every class, now can she? Will the center be opened 24 hours? Will there be a juice bar that offers healthy drinks you can't get anywhere else? Huge photos of Madonna spread across the gym may not do it.
