Madonna's Reason for Adopting a Child: Love or Publicity?

Blah, blah, blah, everyone give Madonna a great big round of applause for adopting an African descendant baby boy. One of her many good deeds to society, right? Hogwash! Doesn't this strike you as being just another "publicity stunt" from one of the greatest stars in Hollywood? No doubt this is a wonderful thing she has done BUT why such great media attention? Why is she getting so much publicity for something everyday people in this walk of life, do all the time? Rather they are struggling single Mothers (like me), single Fathers and/or couples, we have taken on the same responsibility as the great Madonna but without all or any of the publicity. Did she adopt this African child because of her genuine love for children? Is this love birthed from the groins of her soul?

Many everyday people of society rescue/adopt children from the system. These individuals are never recognized or remotely given half of the public attention that Madonna or any of the other "Rich Hollywood Entertainers" get. These people are brave and gracious, built with hearts of gold because of their unselfish act of adopting a child/children from the system. These individuals adopt children because of their passion, love and devotion to children. Not because of the money. We all know, (at least those of us who have adopted a child) that the money that the state pay for the child's support, is not remotely equivalent to the money spent on the child's maintenance. It's very expensive to raise a child and many adoptive parents go without, making sure the child gets what he/she need and even sometimes desire. I know because I live by this rule.

Yes, it's a wonderful thing to adopt a child but the Hollywood stars like Madonna, will never endure the true essence of what most adoptive parents go through. By this I simple mean they will not encounter the financial struggle that comes with being a single mother, father, or couple who has adopted a child strictly due to the love in their heart. Having the desire to save a child from being lost in the system. Madonna and the others are "filthy rich" and could never comprehend the financial struggle we sometime endure.

They will never know the sleepless nights one must endure due to staying up all night to confront a child suffering from withdrawals because he/she was born cocaine addicted. Or having to comfort a child who has nightmares from past life trauma. They will never encounter such experiences because they undoubtedly have Nannies who will stand in place for them. Nannies they will pass the child off to when the times get rough.

It floors me that everyday people like myself, who have given up the single life to take a child in their home are passed on by. Not being remotely mentioned about their accomplishments. No, we don't adopt child/children for praise or publicity. We simply open up our homes, give up our freedom, sometimes lose our jobs, and struggle financially simply because we have big hearts and love children. We feel compelled to adopt one child, if not many from the system that has failed our children. We were chosen from God to love these unfortunate children. It is our God given duty.

I am a single Mother of two beautiful boys (one adopted, the other still in foster care but fighting for adoption). I have lost my job simply because I placed the welfare of my son's health first. Because I had no other choice. I gave up the single life, opened up my heart and home to these very special boys. They have made my life complete and I have given them an opportunity to nourish and grow so they too won't be lost in the system. I rescued them from the system and they rescued me.

So come on. Give us everyday, struggling, single mothers, single fathers and couples a hand for a job well done as well. No, we didn't adopt for praise or publicity. Just wondering what Madonna's purpose of adopting an African descendent boy was? That's my final question?
