Zynga is always trying to find new and different ways to make Mafia Wars more interesting. The latest introduction to spice things up is the Gold Treasure Chest.

How to Use Mafia Wars Gold Treasure Chest

Gold Treasure Chests can be opened using Gold Keys bought from the Mafia Wars Marketplace using Reward Points. Although it normally costs 9 reward points to buy a Gold Key, they do occasionally go on sale for 5 Reward Points, although this does not happen very often.

The items found in the Gold Treasure Chest consist of previously holiday-only items (items from Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, and Easter), as well as the possibility of earning Reward Points. Although it is possible to receive 1000 Reward Points as a prize from Gold Treasure Chests, it's much more likely that you'll receive 1 or 10 Reward Points.

Where to Find Mafia Wars Gold Treasure Chest

Like the regular treasure chest, the Gold Treasure Chest can be found as a random drop when completing jobs. The drop rate is fairly low (I've completed hundreds of jobs since implementation, and only found four), so don't get worried if you complete some jobs and don't find any.

Also, if you're having trouble finding Gold Treasure Chests, the chests themselves can be gifted to friends. Be careful, however, as neither the items obtained from the Gold Treasure Chest nor the keys needed to open the chests cannot be gifted.

Mafia Wars Gold Treasure Chest - Is It Worth the Trouble?

To decide whether the Gold Treasure Chest is worth your hard earned (or bought) Reward Points, you first have to know what your goal is when playing. If you're the type of player who must collect at least one of every item and you missed some of the items that were only available around a certain holiday, then the Gold Treasure Chest might be worth it.

Personally, I see the Gold Treasure Chest as a gamble. Chances are pretty high that you'll either get one of the lower end holiday items (with attack and defense lower than normal job loot drops) or end up losing Reward Points. There's a small chance that you'll come out ahead by getting 100 or even 1000 Reward Points while spending only 9. Since Zynga doesn't release the exact chances that you have of getting any particular item from a Gold Treasure Chest, it's impossible to tell how big of a gamble they are.

If you have a lot of Reward Points or don't mind the thrill of gambling (and possibly losing), then I don't see why not but Gold Keys to open up the Gold Treasure Chests. If you like knowing exactly what you're getting out of Mafia Wars Reward Points, however, you should probably steer way clear of the new Gold Treasure Chests.
