Magazine Advertisements

The wife got me a subscription to Golf Digest and I borrowed a copy of "Solutions" from our coffee table to take on the road with me. It must be the height of boredom to read magazine ads for something to pass the time. But it can be very educational, as well as time consuming!

Speed LD looks like the sort of driver I'd like to have. It's a sleek and sturdy golf club by King Cobra.

Grey Goose Vodka is liberally advertised (probably for the club house after 18 holes!)

Chrysler cars will get you to and from the course.

Lots of things for older folks... investment with Edward Jones, and Avodart for example are displayed on full page ads.

Successful advertising means speaking to the right audience. Golf Digest has quite a selection for men and women both, using age and income as their target factors.

"Solutions" is a small magazine devoted to advertising and sales. They show all sorts of products for people of all ages and interests.

Kitchen wares, such as knives, chopping boards, Margarita makers, glasses and storage containers fill several pages. Each one has a picture and a brief explanation of it's use. Very entertaining. The wife likes to do her Christmas and birthday shopping from magazines. They usually work out pretty well, too.

Handy-dandy gadgets abound in the pages of "Solutions", too. Flame-free tea lights, multi-use hooks, new style light bulbs that save electricity, shoes designed for better posture and more comfort (while still looking really sharp!), are among the offerings.

Outdoor inventions cover several pages as well. A dolly for moving really big planters, cooler strips for around the neck, artificial owls to scare away critters that would like to eat your garden, outdoor sinks, trellises and patio furniture fill the mind with gardening fantasies.

For picnics they show color photos of corn on the cob (and kernel removers), wine chillers to go, salad bowls and containers that protect the fresh ingredients and keep them lunch-ready for hours, there's even a little gadget that makes glasses of chocolate or fruit juice! Seriously! You pour the chocolate or juice in and it freezes the liquid into a glass shaped mold for filling! I may get that one for the wife!

It's amazing what you can learn from a sports magazine or a gift catalogue, isn't it? Golf Digest and Solutions have loads of new and interesting ideas for gift giving and entertaining.

I was thinking about this exact subject when I was reading the latest issue of Field & Stream the other day. It's amazing which products can be geared specifically for hunters and fishermen. I wonder how companies like Chevy choose which magazines to advertise in.
