Magazine DIY Wall Art

Old magazines are a great product for DIY projects in your home. I have piles and piles of old magazines lying around my house. I feel bad just throwing them away because they give me artistic ideas for artwork, interior design, clothing, and furniture. I also like to tear them up and use them to make things for my house.

One thing that I recently made was wall hangings to use on my shelf. It is a relatively easy project that looks artistic and creative. First you want to start by taking your magazines and neatly tearing out pages. Tear out pages that you like the colors or patterns of or that you just happen to find interesting.

I always just tear out as many as I can, because you don't have to use them all its just good to have a variety. Then start with one piece and fold it long into small strips. I usually go for the width of a ruler. It is an easy width to duplicate and does not fold to thick.

Fold all your pieces into the same size small strips. Once you have finished the folding you want to laminate the strips. If you do not have access to a laminate you can take packing tape and cover each piece so it looks like it has been laminated. This gives the pieces a nice finished look instead of just looking like magazine papers. After laminating the pieces you want to basket weave the pieces together.

You can arrange the colors in anyway you would like to make your piece look interesting. I usually choose to use contrasting colors near one another to make the colors pop. Continue weaving until you have a square piece. You can use your square piece as it is or you can combine more than one piece to make it longer or bigger.

You can take the piece you made and put it in a frame to hang on the wall, or you can prop the frame on a shelf. You can also hang it on the wall, or prop it on the shelf as it is as well without a frame. This is a fun and easy project that you can do in your spare time. It is also great because you are recycling your old magazines. It's a simple way to add color and excitement to your walls.
