My tween daughter recently checked out the November/December 2007 issue of American Girl magazine from our local library. On the front cover there are several interesting article titles listed such as Take a Silly Family Quiz! and 7 Fun Ways to Spend Time with Friends. It is no wonder that the American Girl magazine is a popular check out at our local library. You can tell by the bent corners, falling off covers, and lack of newer issues available that this magazine is popular with the tween girl crowd.
American Girl magazine always seems to have some fun quiz and/or craft project to share with tween girls. One of my daughter's favorite craft projects was one using old Altoid tins and felt to create a fun mini purse. The November/December issue of American Girl magazine has a great craft project "Memory Books" that looks like something a tween girl could do, and would love to do as well.
Aside from the craft projects American Girl magazine offers its tween girl readers activities to do, articles to read, quizzes to complete, as well as advice from their peers. For example, the November/December issue of American Girl magazine has an article on how your tween daughter and her friends can start a book club. There is also an article which includes a recipe for delicious star cookies.
If your tween daughter enjoys computer time, American Girl magazine has its own web site here. A visit to the website will reveal many fun activities for your tween daughter to enjoy. Your tween daughter could, for example, send out a free ecard to a relative or a friend from the American Girl website. There are also magazine activities, quizzes, and more.
My tween daughter enjoys this magazine for all of its interesting content, none of which are celebrity related. The craft projects and quizzes are her favorite parts of the American Girl magazine. My tween would rate this magazine as 9/10 stars.
As a parent I feel that this magazine is age appropriate and a magazine I do not mind my daughter reading. There is no pressure on the tween readers to act older than their age and no content focusing on popular celebrities. As a parent of a tween girl I would rate this magazine 9/10 stars as well.
If you are interested in subscribing your tween girl to American Girl magazine the cost of a one year, six issue, subscription is just $22.95. According to one of the subscription inserts from the American Girl November/December issue you can subscribe your tween girl to the magazine for two years for the price of $39.95. It also states that you should allow 4-6 weeks before your tween daughter will receive her first issue.
