Magazines for Christian Youth

Many parents are often concerned about the materials that their children are reading. From the books they check out of the library to the websites they visit online to the magazines they peruse on the grocery store racks, parents are aware that their children have many opportunities to consume a plethora of media sources. While some parents may feel fine with whatever literary materials that their offspring consume, others are much more concerned about the ideas that such media feed their children. Because of this, knowing that their children are reading wholesome materials will certainly put their minds at ease. For any parents who are looking for wholesome and trustable magazines to subscribe to for their teen or pre-teen children, here are a few suggestions on Christian magazines aimed at such an audience.

For girls, Focus on the Family's Brio Magazine (or Brio and Beyond for older teenagers/young college students) is a wonderful publication to subscribe to. The articles are focused primarily on feminine interests, such as fashion, make-up, relationship advice, and cover stories highlighting famous Christian women/young ladies. Since it is a Christian magazine, columns also feature advice on spiritual and moral issues as well as a special focus on missionary related materials. This magazine is a monthly publication and is the perfect gift for a Christian teenage girl who is looking for informative and interesting reading material on relevant areas of teenage life.

For guys, Breakaway is the perfect counterpart to Brio. While Brio is filled with more "girly" articles, Breakaway includes articles that are much more tailored to a man's preferences. From articles on advice for how to talk to girls, to articles on professional surfboarders or bikers, to focused work out routines, Breakaway certainly has enough material to entertain the average teenage guy. Of course, Breakaway also has more spiritual articles, dealing with Christian guys' struggles in standing morally strong in a rather post-modern world. Again, just as Brio is the perfect gift for a Christian teen girl, Breakaway is just as wonderful for a teen guy.

Finally, another (and definitely much thicker) magazine with consistently quality material is Relevant. Advertising itself as including material covering "God, Life, and Progressive Culture," Relevant caters to a slightly older audience than the afore mentioned magazines. (In fact, Relevant is certainly a magazine that many older adults enjoy reading.) Articles include a strong focus on social justice organizations and programs, aimed at encouraging their readers to take a stand against social injustice worldwide. Other articles include highlighting new and emerging musical artists, as well as discussing political and social situations around the world. Relevant is a bi-monthly magazine, but there is definitely enough material in each issue to entertain readers for a significant period of time.

Each of these magazines includes wholesome and not trashy material that parents can feel comfortable knowing that their children are reading.
