Maggie's Organic Socks, They Need to Meet Your Feet

Marie Lowe
If your like most people living on a tight budget, you probably don't spend a lot of money on socks.

For most, the package of Hanes found at Walmart will suffice.

One day I decided to step outside this box and try a pair of socks I found at the local health food store.

I'm not real sure why they caught my eye but they looked comfortable and maybe even a bit warmer than the normal sock.

I examined the label and learned that they were organic socks.

My first thought was what is an organic sock and why would it be better than the ordinary sock.

I then decided that I didn't care and that I just wanted something different.

So I left the store with two pairs of Maggie's Organic socks.

Well the next day I began wearing them and I found that they were comfortable. It was like my feet were being hugged all day.

A few weeks later I participated in the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon. See story and slide show

So I put the socks to the test. For 13 long grueling miles, my feet tested the organic socks.

At one point I told my marathon mates that I believed my socks were disintegrating.

But when it was all said and done. I completed the walk, returned to the hotel and peeled off the socks.

I had survived and so had the socks.

That marathon was in April of 2008 and I still have the socks and they are still in one piece.

I can't say that my other regular brand of socks last this long.

I decided to visit the Web site of the Maggie company to see what these socks are all about.

It seems the company was started in 1992 on the premise that workers should be treated ethiclally and that clothing should be durable.

If only more companies operated by these rules.

It seems the company offers more than just socks, but the socks seem to be the main attraction.

All of their products are made with certified organic fibers.

If your looking for an alternative to the Walmart special on socks, I highly recommend logging on to

to the Maggie Web site and taking a look..

I didn't know organic socks existed. I checked out the site and discovered an item my daughter, who excels at spotting fashion trends, insists will be big this year - leg warmers. You are right. They were inexpensive!
