Magic Eraser: Make a Scratched DVD, CD or Video Game Work like New

This Really Works...

Chad Fowler
OK, here's my story, I hope it helps someone else like it's helped me. I have a video game (CD) that suffered the wrath of my 2-1/2 year old. I pretty much gave up all hope but I kept the game around because I really liked it. I would put it in every once in a while with agonizing desperation and hope that it would magically come back to life, it never happened. I went through the ritual here recently and again, it didn't work, an idea came to me, "see what the Internet has to say about fixing scratched Cd's" is what I said to myself. Here's what I found: polish it with toothpaste, spray it with furniture polish, spread peanut butter on it. I tried all of these and time after time my hopes were crushed when nothing happened. Fortunately fate was on my side.

The mess I had created looked something like a cross between a buffet dinner party and a spring cleaning rally. As I was cleaning up my mixed menagerie of miracle products something fell out of the door, it was a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, a brilliant thought came into my head. Did I really want to go through another bout of disappointment if it didn't work? I was willing to take the chance. I took it downstairs to the scene and started scrubbing the CD with my Magic Eraser. After a little scrub I put it in and it had signs of life, it was getting better. I took out the CD and scrubbed it harder and longer then put it back in the machine. Now with more hope than ever, you wouldn't believe it, the damn thing worked and worked like I just got it out of the package. I was simply amazed that this little piece of modern technology (a sponge) could do such magical things.

Now, without the drama I'll tell you exactly what I did. I did put the toothpaste on it and the CD wouldn't even read at all after that so I washed it off and tried the peanut butter with the same result. I then read something about furniture polish so I tried some of that which didn't work at all either. I used the Magic Eraser, it was well used by the way with plenty of dirt and grime on it. I got it a little wet and scrubbed really hard then wiped it off with my t-shirt. The thing works like new and has not skipped yet. Now there must me some validity to the other stuff I tried but it didn't work for me, the Magic Eraser is the way to go.

Thank you so much sir. I just bought a gamecube game which aren't in production any more. So when I found the game at a local flee market I was overjoyed. I brought the game home started it up loaded the first level and then it quit. I followed your advice of the magic eraser and it works great. Thank you.
