Magic the Gathering: The Top 5 of Morningtide

Here Are the Top 5 Cards in Morningtide. Suited for Garage Play or Tournament Rampage

Morningtide. The long awaited expansion to Lorwyn. Whether you're just getting into the game, or you've been through deck after deck and have decided you want to just get to the best cards, I've got you covered. Here are my top 5 cards in the set of Morningtide. I've done extensive playtesting and stepped into the tournament field with these cards countless times. They're up to snuff, the only question is: Are you ready to dominate?

Five: Chameleon Colossus

This card absolutely rules. First of all, with some of the best crowd control and removal in the game being black, you don't have to worry about it with this juggernaut. He's natually pro black, he counts as a changeling so he fits perfectly inside the confines of your elf deck, and comes with the ability to become huge, especially with a giant growth stacked on top. It goes like this. "Hey this 4/4 with a giant growth now becomes a 8/8, and I'm going to pay the mana to double it. I'll swing with a 16/16 pro black." It doesn't get much sweeter than that. Honestly some players would say this is the BEST card of Morningtide.

Four: Idyllic Tutor

This card absolutely rules Extended. This is the only card I would ever use to tutor for the enchantments I need to turn the tide. Don't mess with anything else. If you're looking for something along these lines, this is the absolute cream of the crop when it comes to tutoring.

Three: Vendilion Clique

Blue isn't normally known for it's aggro, but once in a while, Wizards throws a curveball at us. Vendilion Clique is something that you'd expect to see from Green, but that's what makes it so good. You're opponent will never see this coming. Blue is all about Trickery, but if you boast baddies like this in the same deck, you're cooking up something that nobody's ever seen before, and THAT is when you win big. It's a 3/1 Flash. It can block at a moments notice, and take out your opponents bigger creatures in the blink of an eye. If you play UG, Vendilion clique is not to be overlooked.

Two: Murmuring Bosk

Now this is if you're playing Treefolk. Not a lot of people are, which boggles my mind. I went in with Treefolk to a game of Friday night magic and absolutely killed. Bottom line, this card MAKES Treefolk. It's a forest that can be a plains or a swamp for treefolk. Enough said.

One: Bitterblossom

This card annoyed me so much when I was playing against it, that I had to try it out for myself. Very few cards can genuinely bring a smile to my face while I sit back and do nothing with them. Bitterblossom is one of those cards. Slap this out early in the game, and you're pumping out a 1/1 faerie every single turn, at the cost of only one life. If you're got a life gain enchanments or lifelink creature, you can more than make up for it. Heck, if you can keep the cycle going, you can play 4 bitterblossoms and churn out 4 1/1/ faeries a turn, and gain that life back with lifelink. Truly an amazing card, even though it's overpowered.

  • Chamelon Colossus gets huge and dominates the table.
  • Idyllic Tutor is the best card for fishing game winning strategies out of your deck.
  • Bitterblossom, when played early often means game over for your opponent.
With these cards in your arsenal, there is no reason why you shouldn't dominate tournaments. The trick is to use them better than your opponent does, and to develop your own strategies that take the gaming table by storm.
