Magic the Gathering: The Top 5 of Shadowmoor

Check Out Some of These Shadowmoor Cards. They're Sure to Make Your Deck!

So you're getting ready to build a standard type 2 deck, but you're not sure what you want to build it around? Not to worry, if you play mainly shadowmoor, you're going to need to take a look at a lot of cards and get down to the select few. Well, I've already done that for you, so you can spend more time making your deck and dominating your opponents. Here are the Top 5 of Shadowmoor

Five: Kitchen Finks

Kitchen Finks pack so much of a punch that it's often not even funny (especially for your opponent.) For 3 mana, you can get this 3/2 in AND gain 2 life. When they die, they come back and you gain another 2 life. This is just so incredibly efficient, that any time I'm playing White or Green or any combination thereof, I always use Kitchen Finks. It doesn't matter whether or not I'm playing elves or white weenie or whatever. Kitchen Finks is an auto include for me.

Four: Wilt-Leaf Liege

All of the Lieges are good, but the Wilt-Leaf Liege stands out above the rest. When you're playing Magic nowadays, especially in tournaments, there are a tremendous amount of cards out there that are designed to make you discard. Not only is Wilt-Leaf Liege a huge 4/4 creature that will probably dominate all the other cards in the board (save Chamelon Colossus), if you have to discard it, it comes immediately into play. When this happens to me during tournaments it's a moment of pure joy. Not only did my opponents desired effect not take place, but now he has this beast on the board due to HIS/HER own play. Ha!

Three: Oona, Queen of the Fae

Oona is a little bit costly, but makes up for it with a dual effect that you can use again and again. By tapping X, you can make your opponent mill (discard off of the top of their library) X cards, and make a gigantic army in the process. If you can speed up your mana acceleration and actually get Oona on the board, your opponent might not know the match is over, but most likely it's over. I've seen Oona turn the tides of countless matches where one players fate looked increasingly grim.

Two: Midnight Banshee

A lot of people don't use Midnight Banshee because they claim it's too expensive. This is true, you're going to need some good mana ramp or acceleration to get her out early in the game, but for those decks that constatntly draw the game out until the end, the Banshee is the perfect antidote. If you're playing any color other than black and the Banshee hits the board, your opponents creatures will all but wither away turn after turn until they're left with absolutely nothing on the board or in their hand. Pretty sweet huh?

One: Demigod of Revenge

A lot of people might disagree with me about the Demigod, but let me explain. In a playstyle surrounded by speed as Standard is right now, you want something that comes blasting through the gates. If you're going to have a slow deck, you better have an excuse for it (see Midnight Banshee, Oona). The Demigod of Revenge isn't all too costly, and every time one of them dies it makes them more powerful. There extremely efficient. If you've got 3 in the graveyard and you play one, BOOM, you've got 4 4/4 flying haste baddies. Swing for 20, game over. You then say "Thank you. Come again." to your opponent, pack up your things and dominate your next match =)
