You can also run out and a buy a few ceramic tiles or glass tiles that match your kitchen. This way when the kids make their fun magnets, they match your kitchen!

Now, I personally love those little modern one-inch square glass tiles for this craft project, but honestly any tile will work. Subway tiles and ceramic tiles are perfectly fine. You can often find super cheap tiles online on Craig lists or even in your home improvement store in the return pile.

So, the next thing you will need to make these refrigerator magnets is ceramic paint as some strong magnets.

You can buy both of these at any arts and craft store.

Read your ceramic paints before you buy them. Some ceramic or glass paints will need to be heat set or will only work on certain surfaces. The great thing about ceramic paints and porcelain paints is that they are super affordable and readily available!

Now, make sure your glass tiles are clean and let the kids start painting. They can paint anything they want on their kitchen refrigerator magnets. I think it looks great to do monograms, initials, single letters, and even flowers! If you want to keep a pulled together look have the kids paint the letters of the alphabet on those small one-inch square glass tiles.

Now, let your ceramic paint dry. Cure them in the oven if your paints require this step. Kids can also use the epoxy glue to add flat backed gems or other details to the tile magnets.

Now, flip the magnets over and use the epoxy glue to add a heavy-duty strong magnet to the bag of the tiles. Be sure to use heavy duty magnets so that the tile will be supported on the fridge when you place it there. If your tile magnets fall off the tile will break!

Let the glue dry and you are finished!

Here are some more ideas for images the kids can paint on their homemade magnets:

Animals, fruit, school letters, patterns, diamonds, stripes, squiggles, names, the year, stamped images, and even cartoon images!
