Magnificent Cork Board Picture Frame Decor

Use Old Cork Boards for New Picture Frames

Cork boards aren't expensive - you can even make them yourself with cork on a roll - but if you want something really unique and interesting, use the cork boards as a picture frame. Not your typical picture frame, mind you, but something different that will grab the attention of your visitors.

There are several different ways you can make the cork board picture frames. Use an old cork board, paint or otherwise decorate the frame, then use it for the project. You can also add foam and fabric to the existing cork board frame for a padded and elegant look. Or, remove the old metal around the perimeter of the cork board and add a new frame. One other idea is to use an old picture frame, without the glass, to place the cork. You can purchase cork on a roll and simply cut a piece to fit the picture frame or remove the cork from an existing cork board and place it in the frame.

Old cork can look newer - and very different - just by painting it. You can do the same to the new cork, if desired. Paint the entire cork surface or just use a stamping method to decorate the cork. There are lots of things you can do to the frame, including using novelties to accent the frame, beads, cord and other supplies.

After the cork board and frame are decorated to suit your own decor, it's time to turn it into a picture frame. The best look for this project is for the cork board to be much larger than the actual picture frame you'll be attaching to it. So, choose a set or 2, 3 or more pictures and attach each one to its own framed cork board, centering the picture frame in the center of the board.

Whether you choose to glue the frame in place, or simply use a tack to hold the framed picture, you'll be impressed by how nice it looks once it's upon the wall. Be sure all the picture frames match each other, and that all the cork board frames not only match, but coincide with the color of the framed picture in the center. That doesn't necessarily mean that the frames on the cork boards must match the frames on the center picture, just that they should coordinate well.

Hang the cork board picture frames in just about any room for a striking look that you won't see often. Do something entirely different with it by adding other things to the cork, around the picture. For example, place the framed picture in the center of the cork board then add decorative roping around the perimeter of the picture, a few inches away from the picture. Or, just use scrapbook items, like metallic tags, to add a flash of elegance to the arrangement.

Try adding decorative tacks, wrought iron pieces, metallic charms, wooden shapes or other novelties onto the cork board, in random areas. This gives the cork board a "scrapbook" type of look that hangs on walls. Cork board projects are easy to do and, with your own imagination, can be done in thousands of different ways - one to suit just about anyone's decor style. Keep in mind, though, when you decide on a frame for the center of the cork board, to choose a substantial frame that will grab attention.

The cork board picture frames make unique gifts that the recipient will love - and will likely never see in any store. The original "art" pieces, made with cork board and picture frames, will add interest to bedrooms, living rooms and even children's rooms. Huge or small, the arrangements will surely become conversation pieces for your guests.
