Spastic Paraplegia Foundation
On November 4th Raleigh will experience it's first Magnificent Mile Race.
The races are being sponsored under the auspices of the North Carolina Roadrunners Club in Raleigh. A former runner and member, Sara Dewitt, has been instrumental along with other NCRC members in bringing this event to the Raleigh area.
For those who regularly read my entries, you may remember my first published article on the Portland Maine Roadrunners who sponsored the Oklahoma City Marathon in Afghanistan last year which raised money for Camp Sunshine. I was excited to see yet another runners club engaged in helping people who due to no fault of there own can no longer run.
Runners are the best people!
This race will be held on the magnificent North Carolina State Centennial Campus located just off Avent Ferry Road on Varsity Road.
The Race benefits the Spastic Paraplegia Foundation. The SP Foundation's mission is to find a cure for motor neuron disease and raise awareness of its devastating effect on those who suffer from it.
Imagine if you will having a disease that one week takes away your ability to walk and the next week lets you walk but leaves you unable to speak. It is a very debilitating disease which can strike without warning. One day you can hold your child in your arms, the next you can't even hold their hand.
This is an incredibly worthwhile cause, having seen a friend go through this first hand, the SPF has made great strides in helping people cope with this disease which has no cure at this time.
The event starts November 4th at 10 am.
