The ice cream is from Unilever. It is called Magnum. I tried their double caramel bar. To call my purchase a big mistake wouldn't be sufficient. I had to work off those senseless and unenjoyed calories.
Luckily; however, I was able to purchase a single Magnum bar for just $1.78 at Wal-Mart. Up until now I've only seen this ice cream in a three-bar box for $5.99 and up. Most major grocery stores now seem to carry them, as do some discount department stores with a freezer section for ice cream.
One Magnum bar is 3.38 fl. oz. It represents one serving. There are 330 calories in one ice cream bar. Of that amount, 180 calories are fat-related.
There is a whopping 20 g of fat in a single Magnum Double Caramel Ice Cream Bar. Of that amount, 14 g comes from saturated fat. The bar contains no trans fat.
Additionally, there are 34 g of carbohydrate, 32 g of sugar, 75 mg of salt and 25 mg of cholesterol in a single Magnum bar. It makes me wonder what I was thinking buying it in the first place. Although I only took a couple of bites, I could feel my arteries clogging almost immediately.
On the flip said, at least a Magnum Double Caramel Ice Cream Bar contains 3 g of protein and 1 g of dietary fiber. It also provides 10% of the daily-recommended amount of iron, 8% of the needed calcium and 4% of the required Vitamin A.
Ingredients in a Magnum Double Caramel Ice Cream Bar include Belgian milk chocolate, caramel sauce, chocolate liquor, cocoa butter, coconut oil, corn syrup, cream, milk fat, modified corn starch, natural flavor, nonfat milk, salt, skim milk powder, sugar, vanilla bean, water, whey protein concentrate and whole milk powder. It also includes ammonium phosphate, annatto extract, caramel color, carrageenan, mono and diglycerides, locust bean gum, PGPR, potassium sorbate and soy lecithin.
So what was it I didn't like about this ice cream bar? Maybe it would be easier to begin with what I did like. I liked the beautiful wrapper. Done in chocolate brown and gold, it stands apart from other wrappers. It is classy, classic and beautiful. I give it 5 out 5 stars.
I liked the vanilla ice cream. It was rich and creamy. It could; however, have been a little bit harder. It was partially melted, which made the bar difficult to eat. I give it 3 out of 5 stars.
I sort of liked the caramel sauce. It was luxuriously creamy and tasty. Unfortunately, it too was too soft to eat in a bar format. It would be more suited to regular ice cream. I give it 3 out of 5 stars.
I didn't like the chocolate coating or the Belgian chocolate sauce inside. I didn't feel that either had much of a taste. Maybe it is just that I'm picky when it comes to my chocolate. I give it 2 out of 5 stars.
What I really didn't like about the bar was how messy it was. With the soft ice cream, super soft caramel and practically liquid chocolate inside, it was just too difficult to eat. It gets 0 stars for edibility.
Magnum Double Caramel Ice Cream Bar is also too rich. Two bites were all I could have handled even if I liked the ice cream. I have to give it another 0 stars here. It was too much sugar in a single setting.
That is 13 out of a possible 24 stars. That averages out to less at 2.1 stars. That makes this ice cream is a bust in my book.
Magnum Double Caramel Ice Cream Bar is a product of Unilever, out of Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. They do offer a money back guarantee for this product. I intend to take advantage of it. I want my money back.
Magnum Double Caramel Ice Cream Bar is billed as a product of Italy.
