Mahjong Solitaire 2: More Addictive that Traditional Mahjong

Deborah Woehr
I've been playing variations of Mahjong for over 20 years and have yet to get tired of it. Mahjong Solitaire 2 offers more than any of the Mahjong games I've played so far. Read on to find out more.

Mahjong 2 Game Options

I found this game by accident and downloaded the free trial. Mahjong 2 lets you play in 2D and 3D. I didn't like the 3D because the board moved around too much. The 2D at the medium level setting is just right for me. Mahjong 2 will let you play at levels from very easy to very hard. Once I master all the puzzles at the medium level, I plan on graduating to the hard level, as it will challenge me.

Mahjong 2 comes with 12 tile sets, 12 backgrounds, and 55 layouts. While you can't create your own tile sets, you can create your own layouts. The layout editor is the best I've seen in Mahjong games. Create layouts with as few or as many tiles as you want.

The backgrounds are nice, but I plan to upload some of my own when I get around to it. I like how I can add music from my iTunes to the Mahjong playlist.

Playing the Mahjong 2 Games

Yes, you read right. Mahjong 2 offers nine games.

Tile Pickup - Pick up the tiles as fast as you can. You don't have to worry about matching them.

Simple Match - Find two tiles that aren't covered by another tile and clear the board.

Classic - Everybody's favorite

Flowers & Seasons - This mode works only with classic Mahjong tile sets. Match the flowers and seasons.

Memory - A fun game that reminds me of that old game, Concentration. The object is to remember where the tiles are so that when you find a match, you can clear them from the board.

Two Turns - Clear two matching tiles in two turns or less.

Stacker Classic - Click on a free tile and watch it move to the stack on the left side of the board. They disappear when they match. The challenge is that the stack can only contain seven tiles.

Two Corner Classic Stacker - As in Stacker Classic, free tiles move to the stack. Tiles disappear when you get two side-by-side to match.

Two Corner Classic - A tile is free if it has two corners that are not covered by another tile. I played this one last night, and it was almost too easy.

Out of all of them, I liked the Memory and the Classic games the best. Creating my own layouts is also fun, especially because I am not limited to how many tiles that I can use for my Mahjong games.

Conclusion

Mahjong Solitaire 2 is a highly addictive game that offers more than the traditional Mahjong games. It is available for the Mac, PC, and iPhone.
