That was the first time anyone asked me that question.
The second time someone asked me that, I flipped. I started telling that person as loudly as I can, that I'm not. That I met my husband here in California and I was already a U.S. Citizen. And it was very rude of them to even think about asking me that type of question.
Are people that narrow minded? Do they honestly think that asking someone that, just because they're Asian, isn't unethical? I've thought about this so many times and one thing comes to mind, some people just blurt things out without actually thinking about what they said or saying. But that still doesn't excuse it.
The third time was when some lady sent me a message on Myspace with a subject, "Mail Order Bride." I'm not even going to mention what the whole message was about. But just so you all know, I was very upset and had to report her on Myspace.
I honestly can't believe the nerve of some people! What are they thinking? Or are they even thinking about what they're saying?
I have met other women who was asked this type of question before. They told me that they just shrug and go on their merry way. They've learned to ignore those type of comments. How they do it? I really don't know. One of them told me that she just laughs when asked that question. How she does it? Again, I have no idea.
There's a chance that I will go through the same thing again in the future and it is honestly not something I am looking forward to. I just have to learn how to ignore it and not let it bother me.
I guess that idea will always be in some people's minds. There were and there still are mail order brides out there. It's not something I can control but it is something, like I said, I can learn to ignore.

Post a CommentMoreover, OK, there are many Russian mail order brides coming to the USA. Russia saved the world from Nazi and paid for that with about 30 million lives. Thirty million lives. After this war (before which they had a revolution when people were killing their brothers) any man was perceived as a value and it made men very spoiled and irresponsible. Nowadays women are trying to find something better overseas. No other country lost 30 million people, that is why their women can afford "being so clever" to blame others.
Americans historically have had rather good history, there are exhibitions about Titanic victims everywhere. Russia would not care about 2,200 people because it can hardly count millions... They have different Math.
Well, and what is the disaster to be a mail order bride?:))) People get together differently. There are countries where there are too few men or too few women.
I am married to the man from my country but if somebody decided that I am a mail order bride I would tell that person that I am really sad that America-born women became lazy, do not cook, eat to much fast food and, as a result, their men select women from overseas. When they need passion, they bring Slavic ladies here, when they need good household, they bring Asians:))) I have read once an ad of the dating agency describing Russians and Koreans in this particular way.
Goodness me! This is dreadful, Roma! Although I have not had this question posed to me, I have received other narrow minded questions and comments based on the fact that I am a British immigrant living in California. So I have an inkling of how you feel. It's funny because immigrants are not treated in the same way in the UK. Here, they seem to be really singled out a lot more.

omg...i get that ALL the time!!! its soo annoying and sometimes i can ignore it only bc i don't want to waste my breath on narrow minded people. do they not realize that there are tons of asians here in the states who, like you and i, have grown up here and we definatly didn't marry our husbands for that reason why there are even mail order brides! omg, i agree, its very annoying and all we could do is either ignore or simply enlighten some people.
That is extremly rude!
WOW. The nerve of some people. That's just absurd! Although, I've had people ask my Marine if he and I were just engaged and getting married so his pay would increase. Nice, huh?
