Even though shaving will actually cause razor burn and ingrown hairs, it's one of the best methods of removing hair. All other methods such as waxing and plucking will actually cause more ingrown hairs. You will be happy to know that I am going to provide you with some ways that you can eliminate razor burn and ingrown hair. Razor burn is actually the term reffered to when the area that you shave becomes red and swollen. The area will be very tender and it will hurt and become red. This is reffered to as razor burn.
Razor burn is most often times caused because you press down too hard when you are shaving. People think that if they place pressure on the razor, it will get down to the skin further. In reality, if you have a sharp razor you will not have to push down to shave the hair to the skin.
This is why people who use dull razor blades will often times get more razor burn and ingrown hair. The people know that the razor is dull and therefore they will press down twice as hard to try and shave as close to the skin as possible. Do not shave your skin with pressure on the razor blade.
An ingrown hair happens when the hair starts to grow and then is pressed against the skin, causing it to go back into the area which it came out of. As soon as the body realizes that the hair is back into the skin it doesn't recognize the hair and it trys to push the hair back out, causing the irritation and redness.
To avoid getting ingrown hairs you will want to rinse off your razor as frequently as possible when shaving and avoid pressing down on the skin. You will also want to avoid wearing tight clothing in the area that you shave. You need to use as much shaving cream as possible. The skin becomes irritated when you do not use enough shaving cream. Placing after shave on the skin will only irritate the skin more and cause it to be more tender and painful.
