Mainstream Atheism: Embracing Reality or Spiritually Perplexed?

Lorraine Hayden
Void of any spiritual beliefs, atheist live a here and now existence. Their confidence is placed on themselves and other human beings. Atheism is considered the most profound form of Satanism being that the Devil himself does not acknowledge God. In other words, an atheist does not believe in anything spiritual (including the devil). By denying God, they are actually doing the devil's work.

With books like "The God Delusion" and "Letter to a Christian Nation" topping the New York Times Best Seller's list recently, one can conclude that atheism has gone mainstream.

Science is a crutch many atheist use for their reasoning. We hear about big bang theories, embryos are not considered living beings and homosexuality is simply human nature. This way of thinking has spilled over into our court system. People of faith are being turned into outcast in today's America.

What held families together in the early years of this country was indeed faith. The only thing newly freed slaves had to hold on to was faith. Irish, Italian and other European immigrants who came to this country during the first part of the 20th Century, arrived on our soil with merely the clothes on their backs and faith in their hearts. Families were strong, communities struggled but made a way back then.

We are raising a nation of children who can recite the lyrics to rap songs. They know the codes to beat the latest video games. And they look up to non-talented pop tarts as role models. But when it comes to knowing something as simple as the basic principles cited in the Ten Commandments, our children become baffled.

Situations which were unthinkable are now considered the norm. Somehow we have lost control of our families and our communities are suffering. Those who are spiritually void do not see a problem with this. What they deal with is number crunching and statistics. Atheists are able to recognize the harsh realities of today's society, but they continue to disregard the spiritual correlation of it all.

Many atheists consider themselves free thinkers. But in all actuality, when you become close minded to God's existence you are not a free thinker.

Part of embracing the reality of our world today is accepting the fact that there is indeed a power greater than us. So much time, money and energy is spent on disproving the existence of God. We are now a nation of spiritually perplexed people.

Atheists are tearing apart families? Atheists are less likely to get divorced. Atheists are also less likely to commit crimes or end up in jail. In every objective measure of good that isn't belief in god, atheists rank better. So you can blame us for the break up in families but our families are not breaking up. Also, Satan did not deny the existence of god anywhere in the bible. Additionally, the bible says there is a difference between the life of a mother and a fetus. Nothing frustrates me more than people professing to love the bible so much but not bothering to read it. Read your book, rewrite this article when you can make it make sense and are able to get your facts strait.

...........how do you know that the devil denies the existence of god?

This is the most laughable article I've come across in a while. Science is a crutch? Systemized knowledge, in other words? It's the other way around, I'm afraid. Religion is the crutch. The religious are the ones who indoctrinate our youth, and spread lies and fear about a fictional, monstrous "god." You would do well to read the books you mention. Maybe you'd learn how to think for yourself instead of blindly following 2000 year old fictional characters. And Atheists aren't closed-minded to the existence of a "god," any more than we're close-minded to the existence of a tooth fairy.

I think people have problems with Christianity, becuase we've forgotten how to have faith. Unless it is scientifically proven, we doubt. How sad, that we can't believe in God on faith alone.

In the past several years I have heard "we are a Christian country" and yet our Christian president has people rallied round him to slaughter innocent women and children in Iraq. The KKK call themselves Christians. Catholic priests molest altar boys. A preacher, in church, announces that Senator Obama's mother was a "trashy white woman". The things I hear coming out of Christian's mouths about Muslims is language I do not use. It is easy to blame societies ills on athiests but I have never heard Carl Sagan preach hate and war. If people lived their faith the world would truly be a wonderous place.

I could not disagree with more... but it is well written ;)

Interesting, it's not believe in the GOD, but to me it's a god that some need to find the connection with. Many athiests seem to be upset and disatisfied with their lives.

seems to me that Christ can be proven, most people who dont believe arent willing to do what he says to find out, because that will mean they have to actually admit they they are sinners and turn their lives over to him and well the human ego just doesnt like not being in control
