Mainstream Media Ignores the Truth

I have a degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh. One of the first things they taught me was to be an unbiased observer. I was to present the facts and never allow my opinion to be part of my writing.

It has been twenty years since I graduated from college and I am wondering what it is they teach journalism students today. The media has become so biased that I am disgusted by not only what I read but what I see on television. When did it become O.K. for the media to be so left wing liberal that they won't even allow the American public to know the truth about such important things as the people who are running for president?

If I have to hear one more time about this "historic election" because Barack Obama has chosen to identify himself as a black man to get the black vote, I think I may be ill. I am disgusted that Senator Obama has chosen to do so but I am more disgusted that the mainstream media has allowed it to go on as long as it has.

Let's talk truths for a moment. If elected, Barack Obama, will not be the first black American president. If he were to be honest, he would first of all identify himself as what he truly is, a multi-racial person. Yes, I know, what you are thinking, everyone knows that his mother was white. He doesn't chose to identify himself this way because that is not the vote he is going after. I am saddened that his Caucasian mother and grandparents who raised him are receiving such a small amount of attention and respect. According to the Web site www.arcadeathome.com/, what Barack Obama is not telling the people, is that if he chooses to identify only with his father's side of the family, if elected, he will not be the first black president. In truth, he will be the first Arab-American president.

According to this Web site, despite the fact that his father came from Kenya and undoubtedly looks very black, his family was mainly Arabs. In actuality his father was only 12.5% African Negro and 87.5% Arab. His father's birth certificate even identifies him as Arab, not African Negro. This would go a long way in explaining the origin of the name Barack Hussein Obama.

So will Barack Obama be the first president who was partially black? Not at all, according to historian Leroy Vaughn, author of Black People and Their Place in World History, our third president, Thomas Jefferson, was the first black president. He is not the only one. Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Warren Harding and Calvin Coolidge also had black ancestors. As a matter of fact, President Andrew Jackson's oldest brother was sold as a slave because he was 50% black.

So why doesn't the media report this? Because somewhere along the way they lost their objectivity. At some point it became acceptable to forget about the people they are supposed to be serving, their readership, and put the emphasis on pandering to the people they are reporting on. Perhaps some of you will say it is because it is not politically correct to discuss race. Political correctness is the bane of this society if you ask me. Basic human decency is what should prevail and there is nothing more decent than honesty, even if it hurts.

Some of you will also ask why it matters at all. To be honest, Senator Obama's race should not be an issue. However, he himself is the one who made it an issue when he began promoting himself as a black man. That is when it became important because he is not being completely truthful. I for one can't help but wonder, if he cannot be truthful about his own heritage, what other things is he not being truthful about?

The moral of the story is do not blindly accept what is reported on television or what you read in the newspaper. If you want to truly educate yourself about any subject, including the people we want to run this country, do your own research. There is plenty of information out there on the internet gathered by your fellow Americans who want to know the truth. Although they may have their own agenda, just as the media does, at least if you have all of the facts you can make your own informed decision.
