The amount of time that you free by cleaning house and office can be used to perform additional work or to enjoy some addition recreational activities. Even money can be saved by regularly cleaning your house and office, since you will no longer be buying duplicates of items that you have but cannot find in the black hole that you call home. If you are sold on the advantages to keeping your house and office clean but don't know where to begin the de-cluttering, there are a number of tips and tricks that can make your road to a clutter-free existence much smoother to travel.
Starting with the House
Start at home with the cleaning of your house and office. You need a plan of action for cleaning up the house and maintaining it in that state. The first step is to go through room by room, and get rid of as much excess as you possibly can. For some, this will be a much more painful and challenging process because it is difficult to let go of possessions. If you are one of these people, keep telling yourself throughout your clean-out process that you are paving the way to a more peaceful and orderly lifestyle. If you really can't bear to part with things, store them in a basement or attic for a few months, and then reassess the necessity of the items.
When you have succeeded in bring the house to a satisfactory state of order and cleanliness, you need to make a checklist of tasks you need to do on a weekly and monthly basis to keep the house clean. A weekly list should include a thorough wipe down of bathrooms and the kitchen, and a dusting and vacuuming of the rest of the house. Tailor your checklists to meet your individual needs.
Moving to the Office
In principle, cleaning your office is not much different from cleaning your house. First, de-clutter your desk and files by throwing out any papers that you deem unnecessary to keep. Make sure that you incorporate a system to keep track of appointments, deadlines and work in progress. The organizational system that you select can be electronic as well as the good, old-fashioned paper and pen style. Make sure that you have enough space to house the files that you do need to retain, and keep some desk space free for a personal item or two as well that will make your work space a little homier and more pleasant.
Follow the same procedure you did for your house by making a checklist of cleaning activities you need to do on a weekly and monthly basis to keep your office clean. Even though it is a mundane task, cleaning your office can increase your productivity, which in turn can affect the profits of your business.
