Maintaining our emotional health is the key to a happy, productive, successful life. Jesus Wept is the best book I have ever read on this subject and I would strongly recommend it to anyone who wants to improve in this area. The book takes a comprehensive approach and explains how to be at peace with God, yourself, and your fellow man as you learn how to cope with life and enjoy it at the same time.
In this crazy, chaotic world which constantly speeds along on a 24/7 schedule, there is very little time for rest and relaxation and we lack the necessary down time we need to take care of ourselves. The end result is we are anxious and stressed out. Our emotional health suffers, and we lose our peace of mind, our perspective on things and it becomes just about impossible to enjoy life.
Emotions are good for without them we would not be human. Our emotions run the gamut from love, compassion and sympathy to fear and sorrow. Robots can function without emotions but we never could.
The problem is that we live in a fallen world and our emotions often bring us great pain. Sickness, disease, poverty, a miserable economy, family problems and increasingly frequent natural disasters, all inflict emotional damage on us. So often instead of being in control of our emotions, they control us and sometimes lead us into very wrong choices that cause us even more grief and sorrow.
This book discusses human emotions and provides Biblical principles on how we can understand our emotions and promote our emotional health. The book looks at characters in the Bible and focusing on their emotional reactions to whatever issues they must deal with both good and bad. Then we try to learn from their experiences so we can deal more effectively with our own problems.
