Some people believe that cutting down on food costs because of a tight budget means eating unhealthy food. There is a notion that healthy food is costly but that is not true. There are ways to have a healthier diet without burning holes in your pockets.

Planning your meal is a good way. A hectic schedule at work may be one reason to just order ready-made food or pizza but it is healthier if its home cooked.

Choose recipes that you like and make up your mind on what you'd like to serve ahead of time. This prevents cramming and making less healthy but easier to make food.

If this is your concern, try recipes that can be prepared ahead of time. Some cook for a week in a day and store it in the fridge or freezer. If vegetables are needed, chop or slice them in advance.

Meal planning cuts grocery time by using your plan, a list can be made for your shopping. Your list can be done while checking on sale items in the grocery where you shop. You can even stock up items on special prices. Buying on sale items can help you cut corners. Concentrate on your listed items and discipline your self. Avoid buying unnecessary items can help you extend your budget.

On season fruits and vegetables are cheaper and perfect alternatives for salty and sugar rich snacks. Their frozen equivalents are also good for the body and inexpensive.

Check the prices of the meat you prefer to buy. Be aware of them when they are marked down and buy more items to stock in your freezer if your budget can accommodate it. Some stores cut down prices before closing time, try dropping by at that time to buy.

Recycle leftovers, don't throw them away. Wasted food is money gone down the drain. Be creative in recreating leftover dishes and add a little garnish or flavoring to make them appetizing.

Take note on how you prepare and cook food. Lessen oil consumption. Stir fried mixed meat and vegetables are both healthy and delicious. Empty grease when cooking beef, it's healthier and can be recycled.

Cut extra fat from other meat and use them for another recipe next time. Eat more vegetables than meat it is healthier, cheaper and easier to cook. Vegetables can even be eaten without cooking. Try to mix them with spices and butter to enhance the taste and flavor.

Eating right doesn't mean buying expensive items. Preparing healthy food just needs a bit more effort and a little creativity.
