Take your shovel and remove the top layer of grass. You may use a black piece of rubber tarp and place that on the bottom of your flowerbed. Gather up all the flowers you wish to plant in your flower garden. Before planting, cut holes in the tarp big enough to plant your flowers in so the roots of the flowers may have room to grow in the ground. Plant your flowers the way you wish. To cover the tarp you may use topsoil, bark, or stone. You may wish to use a colored bark to really bring your flower garden out. Doing this will make your flower garden maintenance free besides watering it. Having weeds growing up all around your flowers takes the beauty away from your garden. Using a tarp will eliminate the weed problems.
Flower gardens don't only have to be seen during the day. One flower garden I put in my yard was up close to my house so I could use an extension cord and bring light to my flower garden. I placed two black lights behind my flower garden and at night turned them on. My flower garden lit up all bright and showed all colors of my flowers even at night. This was actually very beautiful at nighttime to view.
Another flower garden can be done in the middle of your front yard where others can see it. Do the same maintenance free idea I have given you in the above flower garden. Put your topsoil in your flowerbed so that it is shaped into a hill. When there is a hard rainfall, this will keep your flower garden from holding to much water. Having a hill shaped flower garden will allow the rain to run off. I would plant a bigger tree in the middle of this flower garden and then plant flowers around it. You may wish to use landscape lumber to outline you flower garden or use decorative stone.
There is nothing like having your windows open during summer and having the different smells from your flowers coming through your home. This makes your home smell fresh and clean. It is always good to plant flowers or bushes around windows in your home so when it is windy out, these smells will enter your home. Plant a gardenia bush below your kitchen window. You may also plant a lilac tree somewhere close to a window. Any flowers or bushes that put off a nice fragrance will work.
These are just some of the things I do in the spring to plant my flower gardens. Add little things that you wish to make it your own. Use your imagination to add beauty to your yard.
