Major Comic Book Industry News Revealed at Detroit FanFare

L. Vincent Poupard
The last weekend of October found me at the Detroit FanFare comic book convention. My all-access press pass allowed me full access to the event, and helped me to often be in the right place at the right time. There are many points of comic book industry news that I found out while I was there.

Detroit FanFare News

The 2011 Detroit FanFare will be at Cobo Arena in Detroit on September 24th and 25th. Instead of the 25,000 square feet that was allotted for this year's Detroit FanFare, Cobo will be allotting over 100,000 square feet. That means that next year's show appears to be four times larger than this year's.

Stan Lee News

Stan Lee made the announcement first at the Detroit FanFare that he will be working on a project in the near future with Jim Steranko. It has been many years since these two industry giants worked together on anything. While he stated that there was nothing that he would release yet, he could guarantee that it would knock our socks off.

Stan Lee also gave some more information on the project between POW! Entertainment (his company) and the NHL. While we knew that his company was creating a comic book style character for each team, that was essentially all we knew. The project will include comic books, cartoons, a clothing line, books, and he even hinted at a movie deal.

Avengers Issue #5

There has been a lot of talk about the timeline that appeared in Avengers issue #5. I spoke to a few people that have intimate knowledge of the project and they have promised me that 2011 and 2012 are years in which all eyes will be on Marvel. The phrase that they kept saying was, "The timeline is real!"

Jim Starlin

Detroit's own Jim Starlin decided to save his big announcement of the year for the Detroit FanFare. Breed III will be coming in 2011. This will continue the story from the first two limited series. It will be a seven issue series, and will be printed and distributed through Image Comics.

BKGTH

It was officially announced at the Detroit FanFare that the comic series, Bad Kids Go To Hell will be coming out in October of 2011 as a major theatrical release. There will also be a second and third installment in this series coming as well. I am personally reading the series right now, and I am impressed!

Ded Dave is Not Dead

Ded Dave was at the Detroit FanFare, and let everyone know that his show was not dead. It has gained more momentum online as being a show that is too raunchy, too disgusting, and too controversial for TV. Maybe that I why I like it so much.

There were other points of news that came out at the Detroit FanFare, but these are the main points that I was able to walk away with. Hopefully, you found some Detroit FanFare news that you are excited with here.
