Major Nadal Malik Hasan is the Main Suspect in Fort Hood Shootings

Rochelle Connery
Major Nadal Malik Hasan is the U.S. Army's main suspect in the Ford Hood shooting rampage ending in a death toll of 11 and an injury tally of 31.

Authorities revealed the major, who was gunned down after killing and injuring several people, was a single 39-year-old psychiatrist who got a poor evaluation at Warren Reed hospital shortly before being transferred to Fort Hood, Texas.

The Army is now looking into the (highly likely) possibility that Major Nadal Malik Hasan's crime had any ties to his Islamic name. They are looking into several possibilities, including the event that he could have changed his name after a conversion to Islam. They have released no word about Hasan's official religion, and many places cite his name as Malik Nadal Hasan.

Interestingly, the major graduated from Virginia Tech, the site of another heinous slaughtering a few years ago. He majored and earned his degree in biochemistry, but became a psychiatric mental "specialist."

More recently, however, President Barack Obama saw fit to address the nation regarding the Fort Hood massacre, and delivered a speech nothing short of irreverent, it would seem. Before even acknowledging the Fort Hood murders, he saw fit to say the following:

"want to thank my Cabinet members and senior administration officials who participated today. I hear that Dr. Joe Medicine Crow (ph) was around, and so I want to give a shout out to that Congressional Medal of Honor winner. It's good to see you." (as quoted from NewsRealblog.com)

As Ben Johnson of NewsRealBlog.com so eloquently makes mention of, President Bush, back in his day, would address a fallen soldier with solemnity and tears. For all his faults, I would have preferred that kind of reaction from Obama, as opposed to the unnecessary, pseudo-enlightening statement he proffered instead.

Major Nadal Malik Hasan is not the only suspect in the shootings, however. Two other suspects have been apprehended by officials, but their names have not yet been released.

Please pray for the injured victims and their families as well as the families of those slain, and pray for justice to be served on anyone who dealt a hand in this tragic event.

I heard this afternoon that he's in a coma. And please, let's not use this as another excuse to bash obama. Why in the world was this guy in the military to begin with? They think his islamic name might be a clue as to why he did this? YA THINK!

PREDICTION: Major Malik Nadal Hasan will be declared dead (again) as soon as he is able to make a statement that he was acting alone. - Vigilis

I watched the speech, too, and I was a little surprised that he chose to include it with all the other comments, rather than saying something in the very beginning. It's not everyday that something so horrific happens in our country. I was disappointed in his response.

This is a pathetic opinion piece written to a standard achievable by TOEFL grads. Good job sweetie.

My wife and I watched the response and just looked at each other shocked. I couldn't believe he didn't immediately address Ft Hood. President Obama doesn't seem Presidential. It is almost like he doesn't have the skills or vision for the job.
