Make an Acne Treatment Bath Additive with Buttermilk, Sea Salt, Honey

A. Kairi
Chilly weather and indoor heating can rob our skin of moisture. For some of us our bodies respond to this by producing extra oils, which can clog our pores and cause acne breakouts on our faces, arms and legs.

Commercial acne treatment blends can be expensive and not a financially viable solution if you have a lot of acne. I developed the following acne treatment bath additive recipe to soothe and moisturize skin while removing dirt and oils that cause acne breakouts.

You will need the following bowls and utensils to prepare the acne treatment bath additive recipe: one medium sized mixing bowl; one small mixing bowl; one medium sized saucepan; one measuring cup; 1 tablespoon; large wooden spoon for stirring and one soft washcloth.

You will also need these ingredients to prepare the acne treatment bath additive recipe: one and a half cups buttermilk; one-half of a cup sea salt and 6 tablespoons of honey.

Begin preparing the acne treatment bath additive recipe by measuring one and a half cups of buttermilk into the medium sized saucepan and then warming the buttermilk over low heat. Take care to use very low heat and stir the buttermilk frequently to avoid scorching it.

Buttermilk naturally softens and soothes inflamed skin; use of buttermilk in the acne treatment bath additive recipe will also help remove the dirt and oils from your skin that cause acne breakouts.

If you do not have any buttermilk on hand, you can easily make a substitution by mixing one and one half cups of milk with one and a half tablespoons of vinegar and stirring them together thoroughly.

After adding the buttermilk to the saucepan and warming it, add the one-half of a cup of sea salt to the pan. Stir the acne treatment bath additive blend and continue to heat it over very low heat until all of the salt has dissolved.

Sea salt is excellent for skin and makes a great acne treatment. Use of sea salt in the acne treatment bath additive blend will soften your skin and help remove acne causing dirt and oils. Sea salt is also an excellent source of minerals that will nourish your skin and help it look healthier. Make sure to use sea salt that does not have iodine added. Iodine is very drying to skin.

After the sea salt has dissolved into the buttermilk, remove the pan from the heat. Warm a bottle of honey under warm, running water until the honey is runny and then add six tablespoons of it to the acne treatment bath additive blend. Honey is naturally anti-bacterial and germicidal; honey's presence in the acne treatment bath additive recipe will kill germs and bacteria and help prevent acne breakouts.

Once you have added the honey to the acne treatment bath additive blend, return the saucepan to the burner and continue to heat it on very low heat for a few minutes. Stir the blend occasionally making sure that the honey and salt are well blended.

After warming the acne treatment bath additive blend, measure roughly 1/2 a cup of the blend into the small mixing bowl and pour the rest into the medium mixing bowl.

Use the acne treatment bath additive blend by pouring the contents of the medium sized mixing bowl into the bathtub while adding very warm running water to it.

Soak in a tub filled with the water and acne treatment bath additive blend for 20 minutes for best results. Use the soft washcloth and the contents of the small mixing bowl to repeatedly cleanse your face, using soft circular motions while you soak in the tub.

i tried this, used the vinegar and milk instead of the buttermilk. after the bath my skin felt moisturised and some inflammation has gone down on my spots.
however, this stuff is bad for your hair. and when washing your face with the concentrated stuff not added to the bath be sure not to get it in your nose as it stings. it probably wasnt worth the time spent on making it, and the cost of the honey and milk used was probably more than a squirt of the stuff designed to combat face and body acne in the bath.
