Make Baby Shower Rosebud Corsages from Baby Socks

Cyndee Kromminga
Create cute and clever decorations and favors for a baby shower, using baby socks. Faux rose bud corsages formed from baby socks are a charming gift for your guests and by adding a floral stem, you can make a beautiful centerpiece for your table. When gathering your supplies, keep in mind that a pair of socks will make two corsages or long stemmed rose buds. Purchase socks in white or pastel colors, or if the mother-to-be knows what sex she is having, choose pink or blue socks and gift the mother with a bouquet. She can then easily take the flowers apart and use them later.

Place a sock in front of you with the cuff at the top. Begin rolling the toe tightly for the center part of the bud. Continue to roll as if you are rolling a sock for laundry. When you reach the cuff, flip it back on itself and over the "bud". You will want most of the rose bud to be sticking out. If the cuff has lace it will form a pretty petal around the bud.

Cut a piece of floral wire 12 inches long. Squeeze the bottom tip of the rose bud and tightly wrap an end of the wire around the tip, leaving about 6 inches straight. For the corsage cut a 6 inch chenille stem and for the long stemmed rose bud use a floral stem wire or recycle a stem from an old silk rose. Place the chenille stem or the floral stem against the 6 inch excess from the floral wire.

Begin wrapping floral tape around the wired tip of the bud. Pull the tape slightly to stretch the tape. It will become tacky and attach to itself. Continue to wrap down the length of the chenille stem or floral stem. Pull to tear the tape end from the stem.

Place the stem of a silk rose leaf against the corsage rose bud or about a third of the way down the stem for the long stemmed rose bud. Wrap the tape around the leaf stem and the stem of the rose bud to attach.

Curl the corsage stem around a paint brush or pencil. Cut a 12 inch piece of 1/4 inch wide satin ribbon and tie a bow around the base of the bud on either the corsage or the stemmed rose.

Finish with a diaper pin to attach the corsage and a vase for the stemmed roses.
