Make Up for Beginners

A surprising amount of women do not wear make up, I have asked a few and they all seem to have varying reasons, for instance some of them do not like the feel of the make up on their skin, some just do not agree with wearing make up, and some simply say that they do not know how to apply make up and they feel that if thy put it on themselves that they would look and feel foolish.

The application of make up can be taught or learned, many people learned from their mother or sister or some other influence. However many people that were not taught took it upon themselves to learn. As with many things practise makes perfect, the more you try, the better you will get at it.

Foundation:

This depends on which foundation you have picked, for beginners I would recommend mineral powder make up because it is easier to find a colour match and it blends very quickly and easily.

Place two small dots of foundation on either cheek, one on your nose and two on your forehead, blend with the brush using small circles until all the dots are joined together and you have a nice even coverage. Make sure that you blend around the jaw line aswell.

If you are using liquid foundation, repeat the above process, but blend using the pads of your fingers until you have a nice, smooth even coverage.

Eyeshadow:

Eyeshadow can be quite daunting for a beginner, and even for those more experienced at applying make up.

For a simple look for beginners, choose a base eyeshadow, this should really be no more than two or three shades darker than your skin tone, apply it with a small bristle flat brush all over the eyelid and up to the browbone and bland it up to the eyebrow. It should only be faintly visible at the eyebrow. Next, using a slightly darker colour, use an eyeshadow applicator to apply it all over the eyelid and blend it up into the crease.

Lipstick or lipgloss:

Normally people tend to favour one over the other, but sticks and glosses both have their merits, it just depends what you are looking for.

A lipstick will give you long lasting coverage and colour, but unless your lips are both big and evenly sized, the application process requires practise.

Glosses offer moisture, shine and can be coloured or clear, the application is simple, but their effects are more short term, so touch ups will be required much more often.

Applying lipstick:

Start by covering your lips with a thin layer of foundation, this gives the lipstick a good base to stick to, allow this to dry and line your lips, with your mouth closed in a sharpened lip liner, the same colour at the lipstick. Next apply the lipstick using a small brush. Blot your lips with a tissue and re apply. You can use a sealant to prevent the lipstick rubbing off.

Applying gloss:

Gloss comes with it's own applicator, so application is a little easier, simply gently dab the gloss onto your lips, apply two coats. Be careful not to apply too much, you don't want it dripping down your face!

I wear makeup, but I wish I was one of those girls that was "naturally beautiful" and didn't need it.

Ooooh, I love make-up. Don't wear a ton of it, though. Great tips for beginners.
