Make Believe

A Poem for Todd Brown

Etienne J. Sarfelli
Sometimes I make believe

That you are still here with us

But you are just so busy

That you don't have time to call or visit

It's so much better than the truth

Better than knowing that I will not

See you smile again

Better than knowing that

You left this world too soon

Sometimes I pretend that it's a joke

That you're not really gone

But you've been gone for so long now

That I know it cannot be a joke

And you cannot really be that busy

If you were able to,

You would have come to me by now

Nothing would keep you from

Holding me in your arms the way you used to do

The way I know you still would

If only you were able

Sometimes I make believe that you are still here

Because as sad as I feel without you with me

It's far sadder to accept the truth.
