Make a Carrie Bradshaw Costume for a Sex and the City Halloween

Carrie Bradshaw is my favorite character from Sex and the City. There was just something about the way she would sit with just her laptop and a lit cigarette and write her articles. I wanted to be that single writer in New York with great girlfriends. Since I am engaged and expecting I think the closest I am going to get to becoming anything like Carrie Bradshaw is dressing up like her for Halloween. If you are like me, and would like to be Carrie from Sex and the City for Halloween night then try some of the tips below to achieve a believable costume.

Loose Curly Dirty Blonde Wig
One of the most recognizable features of Carrie from Sex and the City was her hair. Your dirty blonde wig should not be over styled, rather, it should look like you simply rolled out of bed with your hair looking beautifully messy. If you have dirty blonde hair already then you can style it into loose curls and then give it some texture by spraying it with hairspray and scrunching it here and there.

Cigarettes
They're a nasty little habit, and one that Carrie is known for. If you don't smoke then look for a pack of candy cigarettes or prop cigarettes to use as part of your costume.

Designer Outfit
If you don't want to shell out the big bucks for an actual designer outfit like the ones that the girls from Sex and the City sport on a daily basis then you can look for a convincing knock off. If you are going to look for designer knockoffs for your costume then you might try a store like Forever 21 or H & M. Another option when it comes to your Carrie costume is to ask a friend who can sew fairly well to sew you an outfit, Vogue has some great patterns that would work.

Manolos
One of the first things that comes to mind when you think of Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City is her love for Manolos. Just like the rest of Carrie's wardrobe, however, Manolos are quite costly for the average person, so look for a pair of expensive looking shoes instead. Your shoes should have some kind of heel, the higher the better, and they should go with your outfit without being too matchy (go for a coordinating color but not the same exact color). Remember that the key to any Sex and the City outfit is to put together things that you might not think to put together at first, but that ultimately look amazing.

Jewelry and Purse
Carrie's jewelry on Sex in the City was usually low key and kept the focus on her outfit. Choose a simple gold chain with a simple charm on it, a ring or two, something simple and very classic. When you go to pick out a purse, you might choose one that matches your shoes so that it coordinates with your outfit without being too matchy. Your purse should most likely be a clutch since that is the hot style of purse right now and one that Carrie and all the other female characters from Sex and the City adored as well.

Makeup
Keep it really clean and simple when it comes to makeup for your Carrie costume. Try a nice dark mascara and a pale or clear shiny lipgloss.

Friends
One part of Carrie's life that was an absolute staple were her friends. The best way to make it clear to everyone else who you are dressing up as this Halloween is to get together 3 of your best girlfriends and have them dress up as the other 3 girls from Sex and the City.

If you have a hard time putting together an outfit for Carrie on your own without something to directly imitate then choose one of Carrie's more memorable outfits from the Sex and the City. If you are going to an adult party you could copy Carrie's pajamas of men's plain white briefs and a plain white tank top.
