Make Cheap Fabric Softener Sheets from Coffee Filters

Matt A. Maxx
Fabric softener dryer sheets are expensive in the store, but we really do enjoy using these sheets in so many helpful ways. Some people put a dryer sheet in a drawer to keep all of the clothing smelling fresh; others put dryer sheets into shipping boxes so that the order smells wonderful when it gets to where it is going.

So, how do smart shoppers save money on their dryer sheets? We make them!

You Need:

Cheap Liquid Fabric Softener (about 2.50 a gallon)
Round Paper Coffee Filters
Hanger & Paperclips

Step One:

Pour some cheap liquid fabric softener into a large flat bowl or pan. Dip a paper coffee filter into the liquid and let soak for about 30-seconds.

Step Two:

Wring or scrape the excess cheap fabric softener off of the wet coffee filter and back into the bowl. An easy way to do this is by running it between your palms.

Step Three:

Hang the wet coffee filter on the coat hanger with a paper clip and dry hanging over a large bath towel. After your project is over this towel can be washed with the next load and the drips of cheap fabric softener that landed on it will not be wasted.

Step Four:

Your dried fabric softener sheets can be stored in an airtight bag or plastic coffee can until you are ready to use them. You use these fabric softener sheets just like you would for the store bought fabric softener sheets.

Options:

People like to use fabric softener sheets in the dryer, under rugs to keep a room smelling fresh, in shipping boxes, tucked out of sight into dried flower arrangements, under the couch cushions, inside of smelly shoes at night, in the dirty clothes hamper, under the dog bed, under the floor mats in cars, in briefcases, and anywhere else that you would like the scent of clean to greet your friends.

Fabric softener sheets can also be made with non-scented cheap liquid fabric softener if you do not like fake smells. Putting these unscented ones around the home and into shipping boxes also helps to draw unwanted odors into the sheet. The fabric softener acts along the lines of a magnet with smells and does not have to have its own smell to be working.

A quick craft project can be done with fabric softener sheets and dried spices. Put some dried pretty smelling spices into the center of a fabric softener sheet and tie closed with a piece of ribbon knotted into a loop. This can hang in your daughter's locker at school to banish those yucky smells coming in from the locker next door.
