This is a classic, smile-inducing decoration for the Halloween season that never fails to make me look twice. I have seen the crashed witches sold in stores, but rarely does the quality match the price. Here is how to make your own crashed witch decoration.
You Will Need:
2 Boards for legs, 1 foot by 2 feet cut to around 38 inches long
2 Boards for arms, 1 foot by 2 feet cut to around 28 inches long
1 Board for the back, 34 inches long. The width will depend on the pole or tree you are working with. It must be wider than the pole.
Saw
Hammer
Glue
Nails
Wire coat hangers
Old broom
Witch's hat
Pair of long gloves
Pair of long striped socks
Long black dress
Wig or skein of yarn for hair
Instructions:
1. Untwist four wire coat hangers.
2. Bend two of the wires so that they each form a U shape. Duct tape each wire U to the end of a different 38-inch board to form the witch's feet.
3. Bend the other two wire hangers into hand shapes and duct tape one onto the end of each of the two 28-inch boards.
4. Screw and glue the legs to the bottom corners of the backbone board.
5. Screw and glue the arms to the top corners of the backbone boards.
6. Stuff each of the socks with a little filling and staple a sock to each leg.
7. Stuff each of the gloves with a little filling and staple a glove to each arm.
8 Cut the black dress up the front center. Wrap the dress around the boards that create the witch's structure.
9. Staple the dress back together in front. Be sure that the dress is long enough to cover the witch's frame.
10. Nail the entire structure to a tree, pole, or whatever you are working with. If you are working with a metal pole or something you either cannot or do not want to use nails on, strap the witch's backbone to the support with long cable ties.
11. Staple the witch's wig or skein of yarn to the top of the backbone.
12. Arrange the old broom so that half of it sticks out behind the witch and half shows in from. Attach the broom with nails, ties or duct tape so that it is secure.
13. Stuff the witch's hat with more plastic bags so that it will keep its pointy shape and stay standing up tall.
14. Wire or staple the hat to the pole so that it sits nicely on the wig.
Now you have a cool crashed witch decoration. Feel free to jazz up the witch's costume a little to make it fit your style even more. Make the witch truly your own, and enjoy the appreciation for your hard work creating it.
