Make a Cute Holiday Penguin from a Coffee-mate Creamer Bottle

This Holiday Craft is Easy, Quick and Inexpensive

Mary Martin
It is easy to repurpose a creamer bottle to craft a penguin. This penguin may be made from an empty large or small plastic bottle. If you make several in different sizes you could create a penguin family to use for holiday decorating. They would be cute in several settings.

Time: 1 hour

Cost: $3.00

Materials:
1 32 oz Coffee-mate bottle
1 felt peel/stick 9X12 sheet, white
Black acrylic paint
Orange acrylic paint
Black permanent marker, optional
Scissors

Instructions:

Remove cap and wash empty bottle; allow to dry. Peel the plastic outer covering from the bottle. Pour a small amount of black paint into the body of the bottle; swirl to cover the inside completely. (I added a very small amount of water to the paint to allow it to flow more freely.) Allow the paint to dry. You may wish to make paper patterns for the body oval, eyes and beak to use to cut the felt. Cut an oval from the white peel/stick felt to use for the body, two small circles to use for eyes and a small beak. Peel the backing from the oval and place it on the bottle. Either paint or use the marker to create small, black circles on the eyes. Allow the eyes to dry. Paint the beak with the orange paint. Allow the beak to dry. Remove the backing from the beak and place it above the body oval. Remove the baking from the eyes and place them above the beak.

The red cap serves as a hat. You may want to glue a small white pom-pom on the hat.

Complete pictures to accompany these instructions are available: slideshow.

It would be very cute to create a penguin family as a holiday craft. The penguin could also be used as a bank by carefully cutting a slot in the back of the penguin to insert coins.

What a great idea- I don't use coffee mate but my son-in-law does, I think I'll ask them to save the next few bottles. And it does seem really easy and inexpensive.
