To do this craft you will need:
a wooden bowl
foam brush
decoupage glue (one that I like is called Modge Podge)
pretty paper to decoupage with (one idea is that you can use gift wrapping paper)
To make a decoupage bowl you will first need pretty paper to decoupage with. There are quite a few options to select from. One of the best ideas for decoupage is to use gift wrapping paper. Gift wrapping paper has pretty patterns, and many of these patterns will work well with home decor. Another idea is to use magazine pictures. You can also cut out pictures from magazines and use specific images. Another idea is to color copy some photographs on very large pieces of paper, and then to use this. Be creative with your images. The better your images, the better your decorative bowl will turn out.
Remember that you are making a decorative bowl - not a bowl that you will use for eating or to store food in. A decorative bowl can look great in the living room or in the front hall. You can store little objects in it. Marbles or other round objects can look very creative in a bowl. Another idea is to keep dried flowers in the bowl. You can use it to store pictures or postcards you want to share with your guests. There are so many things that you can do with this bowl, you are only limited by your imagination.
To do this craft, begin by laying out newspapers to protect the surface that you are working on. Once the area is covered with newpapers, put out your supplies.
Turn the bowl upside down. You will be working on the bottom first. Take a piece of paper that you will decoupage with and cut a piece to cover the bottom of the bowl. Cover the bottom of the bowl in glue. Because this object is round, decoupaging it will look better if you cut the paper into smaller pieces. If you use a large piece of paper, the paper will fold to conform to the shape of the object and there will be lots of folds and extra paper on the bowl. Cover the entire bottom and outside of the bowl with the paper that you would like to use. Once this is done, allow the bowl to dry. Because you are using a lot of paper and glue, the bowl may need to sit for an hour, or even for several hours. Let the bowl completely dry before you work on the inside.
Once the bowl's outside is dry, you are ready to work on the inside. Repeat the process for the inside of the bowl. One thing that looks really nice on the inside of the bowl is to use a different color of paper for the inside of the bowl, either a lighter or a darker color for the inside of the bowl. This will give your bowl a very artistic look. Once you have completed the inside of the bowl, allow it to completely dry. When the bowl has completely dried, it is ready for use.
