Make it a Dollar Store Christmas with Gift Kits, Baskets and More

Ainsley Patterson
As a college student, I am used to doing Christmas on a budget, in fact, I do life on a budget. My new favorite store is the Dollar Store. I love the wide variety of products that you can find at the Dollar Store, there is definitely something for everyone. I think that there is also a stigma that comes with the Dollar Store, but I am here to tell you that you can find great gifts at the dollar store without having to give a gift that looks cheap. Here are five ideas for great gifts on a budget.

1. Body Basket
The Dollar Store offers a great selection of scented body wash, lotion, body spray, and bubble bath. Why not buy one of each in either one scent or four different scents and put them in a cute basket (also can be found at the Dollar Store). Any girl or women would love a gift that she can pamper herself with. You might also consider throwing in a nail file, nail clippers, a loofah, a brush, etc. Why spend upwards of $40 for a basket that you can create yourself for under $10?

2. Craft Kit
Already purchased that expensive game system your children have been begging for and now you are looking for some smaller gifts to give them? Why not create a craft kit for the kids? You can find so many craft products at the Dollar Store (one of the main reasons I love the Dollar Store). The Dollar Store has coloring books, crayons, markers, paint brushes, poster board, foam sheets, glue, pens, pencils, stickers, colored pencils, etc. They also have small plastic storage tubs that would make a great place to store the craft supplies neatly and out of the way.

3. Home Improvement Kit
Know someone who just moved out on their own or who likes to do small projects around the house? Why not purchase a small selection of basic tools and cleaning supplies to help them spruce up their new place? The Dollar Store usually offers some basic tools like hammers, screw drivers, screws, nails, etc. They also have anything you could ever need to clean your house including sponges, mops, cleaners, and rubber gloves. Throw all of these things into one of their mop buckets and you have any neat freaks dream gift.

4. Scented Candle with Decorative Votive
There are always those people who love candles, me for example. The Dollar Store offers many candles, as well as votives, and decorative stones to go in the bottom. Buy a plain, medium sized votive, throw some decorative stones in the bottom and buy a nice array of scented candles, throw it in a Dollar Store basket and call it a gift. Easy and inexpensive and sure to please.

5. Junk Food Basket
Know someone who loves to stay home and watch movies and owns every movie ever made? Why not buy them some snacks to enjoy while they watch? The Dollar Store usually offers small bags of name brand candy and chips. Buy one of their small storage tubs, stock up on a wide variety of sweets and chips and maybe even throw in a few bottles of soda, some plastic cubs, and small snack bowls and you have the perfect give for a friend or coworker who you want to buy a gift for but don't want to spend a ton on. This would even be a great stocking stuffer for that child who loves to watch Disney movies.

I've only listed 5 gift ideas, but believe me, there are several other great gifts that can be found at the Dollar Store, you just have to be creative. They have a wide variety of children's toys, beauty products, food, dishes, craft products, and even home decor products. I hope this list helps you get started with your Dollar Store gift hunting.
