Make an Easter Bunny Pin from a Glove

Quick Easter Craft

Cyndee Kromminga
Make a cute little bunny pin for Easter using a knit utility glove. Well, actually it's made from a finger of the glove, and one pair will yield you 10 bunny pins. I like the texture and the natural, undyed color of these gloves, and it doesn't hurt that they are cheap. These little Easter pins can be given out at as favors at class parties, used as a little something something in an Easter basket, or concealed in a plastic egg for an Easter egg hunt.

Things You Will Need:

Utility glove
Scissors
Stuffing
Hand-sewing needle and thread
Ruler
White bumpy chenille stem
Wire cutters
Hot glue gun
White, 4-ply, worsted-weight yarn
Two white pompoms, 3/4-inch
Craft glue
Pink pompom, 1/4 to 3/8-inch
Two wiggly eyes, 1/4-inch
Pin back, 3/4-inch

Step 1
Cut off one finger from an off-white knit utility glove. This is the Easter bunny's head. handle the finger gingerly, as the cut end will begin to unravel.

Step 2
Stuff the head. Do not over stuff. You want the bunny head to be puffy, but not round. It needs to be able to lay flat without rolling.

Step 3
Sew a running stitch around the opening of the head, 1/8 inch from the edge. Pull the thread to gather the opening closed. Knot and cut the thread. The gathered end is the top of the bunny head.

Step 4
Cut a two bump section from a white bumpy chenille stem using wire cutters or utility scissors. Each bump is a bunny ear. Do not cut the two bump section in half. Bumpy chenille is a pipe cleaner with four fluffy 2 inch sections spaced with an average diameter pipe cleaner section. The stems are 12 inches long. Two pairs of bunny ears can be made with one bumpy chenille stem. Cut off the tips of the two bump section even with the bump ends.

Step 5
Lay the two bump ear section over a finger. Position the pipe cleaner center over the finger. Bend the ears down. Apply a dot of hot glue over the gathered top of the Easter bunny head. Place the center of the ears over the glue. Allow the glue to cool.

Step 6
Cut a 4-inch length of white, 4-ply, worsted-weight yarn. Set the length aside. Wrap more of the yarn around a finger three times. Slide the wrapped yarn off of your finger and pinch it together in the center. Wrap the 4-inch length around the pinched center and tie in a knot. Trim the ends of the yarn tie even with the loops. Decide which side of the head will be the front of the bunny. Apply a dot of hot glue to the front of the head, just in front of the center of the ears. Place the tied yarn over the glue. Allow the glue to cool.

Step 7
Apply two dots of hot glue (side-by-side) on the bottom section of the face. Place two 3/4-inch white pompoms in the glue for the Easter bunny's cheeks.

Step 8
Use craft glue to apply the smaller details of the face. Apply a dot of glue in the indention between the top of the cheeks. Place a 1/4 to 3/8-inch pink pompom in the glue for the bunny nose. Apply two dots of craft glue (side-by-side) above the nose. Place two 1/4-inch wiggly eyes in the glue. Allow the glue to dry.

Step 9
Turn the Easter bunny head over with the back facing up. Apply hot glue to the back of a 3/4-inch pin back. Place the pin back a 1/2 inch from the top of the head and running horizontal.
