I wanted to create a special gift for my father that would be special to both of us. Something special for me to make and something special for him to receive. You know, one of those gifts that doesn't get forgotten about or exchanged because it is not the right color or does not fit right. I decided to make a Father's Day album. A special book that I can capture all of our special memories together. As I looked back over the past 24 years, I found so many special memories, stories and events that we shared. With pictures, memorabilia, handwritten stories, thank you notes and other items this was sure to be one of the best gifts ever!
A 7x7 album was the perfect size for me to complete in no time. After all, I did have to completely fill the pages and get it shipped off to him. I found a nice album that was just right for my father. As I began going through items that I wanted to include in the scrapbook, I realized what an awesome father I had. These were the stories and the feelings that I shared in my album. What did I remember doing with him? How were holidays and celebrations made special because of him? I included my thoughts about how I appreciated him always being at my school events and included pictures from those events. The book is complete and I can not imagine a better gift than this!
So, just what did I include in this album? I began with my birth. Pictures of him holding me as a baby and a copy of the birth announcement filled the first two pages. Then, there were pictures of the two of us as I grew into a toddler. I came across old Father's Day cards that I had made him as a child and included those in the album. School pictures and projects that I made just for my dad were also mounted into the album. Any other pictures that I found that showed special memories, events and celebrations were added to the collection. A copy of my graduation announcement and pictures from that special day were added. My wedding pictures were added and of course, photos of him and my children are in there. I wrote a few poems and stories about how special he is to me and what an awesome dad he is. A nice album, some pictures, colored paper, stickers, tape runner and a good journaling pen is all I used.
Think outside of the box and make something extra special for dad, grandpa or another special father-like figure this year!
