Make Great Mother's Day Gifts from Thrift Store Finds!

If you are a little short on cash this year (and who isn't?), here are a few ideas for taking items you can find at your neighborhood thrift store (or perhaps even in your own basement!), and turning them into unique gifts for your favorite mother on Mother's Day.

A Teacup Planter

Find a pretty cup and saucer combination in the dishware aisle of your thrift store. Glue the cup to the saucer, fill the cup with dirt, and plant a little posey for your Mommy!!

A Larger Planter

Another planter idea, this planter would be great on an outdoor deck or picnic table. Pick up some small plants - flowers or vegetables, depending upon your mother - and plant them in a unique container you find at the thrift store. You can often find actual planters at the thrift stores that will save you loads of money over the cost of a new planter. But if you don't find an actual planter, check out the kitchen aisle for a large pot that can be spray painted or stenciled. Or place the pot in a pretty basket to hide its imperfections, and tie a pretty ribbon around the handle for a finishing touch!

Bathroom Accessories

Find a pretty glass bowl or vase and fill it with soap or potpourri. Or add marbles or stones and a tea light candle on the top. Look for a narrow basket that will fit on the back of the toilet and fill it with paperback books or magazines for her bath time reading, or hand towels and washcloths. Or CDs!

Candle Holder

The choices are endless for finding a unique container at the thrift store that can act as a candleholder. Small juice glasses or cups, brass bowls or dishes, small planters, those metal tins that are always in great abundance at the thrift store! If the container is heatproof, try melting used candles to create an interesting "new" candle. Once the heated wax starts to cool off and harden, press a new votive candle into the center to top it all off and give you a wick. You can color coordinate a candle to match any room in the house, or use a metal container to create a candle holder that can light her garden table in the evening.

Picture Frame

There are always a lot of picture frames at the thrift store that you can clean up or paint, and add your Mom's favorite photo of YOU, or perhaps a poem or drawing you've created just for her (be sure to date it). This will be a Mother's Day gift she will treasure!
