Since this spider web is easy to make, enlist your children's help for a delightful afternoon project.
Supplies Needed for Halloween Spider Web Porch Display
2 packages cheesecloth at $2.99 each
1 skeleton head spider - $2.99
1 creepy medium-sized black spider - $4.99
Scissors
Fasteners such as push pins, small nails, or anything you have around the house
Total cost = $13.96
I purchased all these supplies at a local craft store. Try looking at Michael's, JoAnn's, or Hobby Lobby.
How to Make the Halloween Spider Web Porch Display
1. Locate the best place on your porch or front entry way for the spooky spider web. You want it in a location where the kids can see it, but where it will not get tangled in Halloween costumes.
2. Drape the first package of cheesecloth across the top portion of your display area. Fasten the cheesecloth using push pins, small nails, tacks, or whatever fastener you have on hand. Tape may work if your weather is mild. If you have wet, windy, or snowy weather, then the tape will eventually fall off.
3. Drape the second package of cheesecloth across the bottom portion of your display area. The cheesecloth sections can overlap. You can stretch the cloth tight or keep it loose, depending on your preference.
4. Use the scissors to create random holes in the cheesecloth. These holes will enhance the creep factor!
5. Add the spiders to the cheesecloth. If the spiders have bendable legs, then bend one or two legs to ensure that the spiders are securely attached. Make the front two legs bend forwards towards the visiting trick-or-treaters.
Options: Enhance your Halloween Spider Web Porch Display
If you want to spend a few more dollars, then up the creep factor on your spider web using one of these techniques.
1. Add more cheesecloth webbing. Fold the cheesecloth in half so that the web looks thicker or purchase white muslin instead.
2. Add a large, hairy spider to the top of the web! Some stores carry large, battery-powered spiders that can move their legs.
3. Add small, plastic flies as snacks for the spiders.
4. Paint small blotches using red paint to make it appear as though the spiders just ate a fresh meal.
5. Use lighting effects to make the spider webs really stand out on your porch.
